:This is your co-host, Tyler y,
and today I am with Chris Kellum
3
:and our special guest today is
4
:Tara: Tara.
5
:Tyler: Very nice to have you on.
6
:Tara.
7
:Uh, we were just talking
before the podcast.
8
:We've kind of like known of each other
for a while in different aspects.
9
:Mm-hmm.
10
:And, I have been coming to Good Lie
more often and join the league, the
11
:first league that you guys had Yeah.
12
:And everything too, and got to
know you a little bit through that.
13
:So we are excited to have
you on the podcast now.
14
:Tara: Yeah.
15
:Excited to be here.
16
:Yeah.
17
:Tyler: Thanks.
18
:Awesome.
19
:Chris: Yeah, I was sitting here and I
was like, I know Tara, I know this name.
20
:And then you walked in.
21
:I was like, oh, yeah, I do
follow you on social, but I've
22
:not seen a picture of you.
23
:Yeah.
24
:And you're like, yeah, I just
don't post pictures of myself.
25
:Tara: Yeah.
26
:Yeah.
27
:I run a lot of, I've ran a lot of
social media accounts, so it's mostly
28
:me just doing it all for everybody.
29
:Right.
30
:Guys: Noise, uh.
31
:Excuse me.
32
:Tyler: So we are sipping on High
West again, the Prairie Bourbon,
33
:but this time Chris has come
prepared with some notes for us.
34
:Chris: Yes.
35
:Well, so our bottle's a little bit older,
so I think they've updated the bottle.
36
:Mm-hmm.
37
:And the visuals on it.
38
:But on the nose it should be a little
light caramel, uh, sweet vanilla.
39
:It's supposed to have a
rich and earthy palette.
40
:With some candy, corn, honey noot
and sweet corn bread, biscuits.
41
:Do you get any of those things?
42
:Tara: Yeah, I definitely
got the noot taste.
43
:Yeah?
44
:Yeah.
45
:Chris: What's Nuit?
46
:Tara: It's like a, like a nutty,
almost like a Hazelden, but have
47
:Tyler: you had a Snickers?
48
:Yeah.
49
:So
50
:Chris: let's just
51
:Tyler: make
52
:sure everyone
53
:Chris: knew what we were talking about.
54
:Okay.
55
:Oh, this is one of your I do kind of
56
:Tyler: get some candy corn, like
on the back end of the taste.
57
:Yeah,
58
:Chris: that's why I was like,
it's, it tastes very like springy,
59
:but I mean, 'cause of the sweet
notes, but I could definitely see
60
:it being like a, a fall drink.
61
:Yeah.
62
:It is a 75% corn, 21% rye mash bill.
63
:Guys: So
64
:Tyler: we did blind, uh,
bourbon tasting the other day.
65
:Oh.
66
:And from micro distilleries.
67
:So that was fun.
68
:We learned more about mash bills
and stuff and yeah, like do we
69
:actually taste what's in here or
are we just like fooling ourselves?
70
:And we actually did pretty good.
71
:Yeah.
72
:So I, I was impressed.
73
:He did good.
74
:I did horrible.
75
:Chris: Yeah.
76
:No wanna say he did
77
:Tyler: horrible.
78
:Tara: You know, sometimes I feel like they
give you the sheets for some bourbons.
79
:Like I've started my bourbon
journey at French Street Brewery.
80
:Oh yeah.
81
:Uh, that's a good place to do it.
82
:Yeah.
83
:TJ there taught me a lot about
bourbons and sometimes we'd
84
:be tasting, I'm like, mm-hmm.
85
:I taste exactly that.
86
:Tyler: Right.
87
:Not a cliff.
88
:Whatever you say, sir.
89
:Tara: Yeah.
90
:Tyler: So tell us a little
bit more about yourself.
91
:Tara: So I've been in the
service industry since I was.
92
:15.
93
:I've kind of had a lot
of different life things.
94
:Like I went and got my bachelor's and in
marketing and communications and then I
95
:fell for one of those pyramid scheme jobs
in Charlotte, uh, for sales and things.
96
:So I've, then I just did
full-time bartending.
97
:Mm-hmm.
98
:And then went back and got my
master's and then covid happened.
99
:And higher ed took a big hit.
100
:Yeah.
101
:So then I just realized, kind of sat there
and thought about it and I was just like,
102
:service industry is where I wanna be.
103
:Tyler: That's awesome.
104
:Tara: And really set my life on that.
105
:And I was also doing freelance marketing
and graphic design all over town.
106
:And then really fast I started
running a few businesses, a few
107
:bars, restaurants, and so then I
realized that's what I wanted to do.
108
:Nice.
109
:Tyler: That's awesome.
110
:And so we had the previous bar owner on
Joe that you've worked really well with.
111
:Yeah, yeah.
112
:So that was really neat, like
knowing that you were behind
113
:the scenes of all of those.
114
:Mm-hmm.
115
:Right?
116
:Mm-hmm.
117
:Tara: Yeah.
118
:Yeah.
119
:I was the GM of all three.
120
:Yeah.
121
:Tyler: Oh, that's awesome.
122
:So I'm sure that could be very busy.
123
:Tara: Yes, yes.
124
:It kept me very busy.
125
:Tyler: Were you there
when the facade fell?
126
:No,
127
:Tara: I wasn't in the building,
but I live on Front Street.
128
:Guys: Oh yeah.
129
:Tara: It's funny 'cause there was,
obviously I know a lot of people
130
:downtown from working there for so long.
131
:I got so many people calling
me of like, why is your husband
132
:booking it down from the street?
133
:And so he ran and I went to the car and so
we were there to fix it up and everything.
134
:It was me, my husband, Joe,
and a bunch of his buddies.
135
:Tyler: Yeah.
136
:Wow.
137
:Tara: To fix it.
138
:It was, it was a battle, that's for sure.
139
:I'm sure.
140
:Chris: Gosh, that's crazy.
141
:Yeah.
142
:I was like, I didn't think
you were there inside.
143
:Tara: No.
144
:Yeah, I wasn't there
there, but uh, I was there.
145
:But you were still working?
146
:Yeah, I was there within 10 minutes.
147
:Tyler: Wow.
148
:Yeah.
149
:All: The good,
150
:Tyler: was it, were people
actually inside when that happened?
151
:Tara: There was our, our last customer
that night left like five minutes before.
152
:Oh, wow.
153
:Yeah.
154
:So we were good.
155
:But the staff inside there
was a cook and a waitress.
156
:Mm-hmm.
157
:And so they said they were in the
back luckily when it happened.
158
:Yeah.
159
:But I can only imagine
what it sounded like.
160
:That's probably scary
as hell to hear that.
161
:Yeah.
162
:Yeah,
163
:Chris: I'd be like, Hey
you guys, here's my notice.
164
:Yeah.
165
:I'm not trying to get trapped in here.
166
:Not anymore.
167
:Tara: Yeah.
168
:I've become really good in a crisis.
169
:So I just went into like work
mode of like, all right, we
170
:need to fix this, this and this.
171
:Clear the people.
172
:'cause then everybody starts
crowding 'cause there's fire trucks.
173
:And I wish, I wish there was someone
recording, 'cause Joe had a moment
174
:where he was walking on the rubble
and just screamed a curse word.
175
:And I was like, that's like
a scene out of a movie.
176
:Right.
177
:But I mean, we were all thinking it.
178
:Chris: Right, exactly.
179
:He just, he just said it out loud.
180
:Tara: Yeah.
181
:Tyler: Yeah.
182
:So when did you transition from
doing that over to Good line?
183
:How did you find that opportunity?
184
:Tara: So actually the owner,
he started out as a patron at
185
:one of the bars I was running.
186
:Okay.
187
:And I was bartending.
188
:And I fell in love with the
idea of a mini golf bar like.
189
:I wanna say eight years ago.
190
:Guys: Mm-hmm.
191
:Tara: Yeah.
192
:A long time ago.
193
:And I was like, Wilmington needs this.
194
:Yeah.
195
:Like, especially like an
adult oriented mini golf bar.
196
:Yes.
197
:Especially downtown.
198
:Guys: Right.
199
:Tara: That would be really cool.
200
:And we just started talking and he talked
about the bar that he has in Florida.
201
:Mm-hmm.
202
:And I was like, dang it,
someone's getting one under me.
203
:They're stealing my idea.
204
:Well, not my idea 'cause I stole it
from someone else, but for the sale.
205
:Yeah.
206
:Yeah.
207
:And so I transitioned Tola in
end of July, beginning of August.
208
:And it was to be a part of it, and
I mean, he, the owner really, he got
209
:a sense of all my, all the things
that I do, marketing, everything.
210
:And so he really wanted to invest
in what I bring to the table.
211
:So he made me an offer I couldn't refuse.
212
:That's awesome.
213
:Yeah.
214
:Very cool.
215
:Yeah.
216
:But I've loved it.
217
:I mean, helping build the
mini golf and just build the
218
:brand itself has been mm-hmm.
219
:Yeah.
220
:Really awesome.
221
:Tyler: So, obviously, like Jennifer
and I go there pretty often too, but
222
:it seems like there's already just
within the year, like a pretty good
223
:community that's already built around it.
224
:Tara: Oh, yeah.
225
:Yeah.
226
:I mean, the one thing of like why
we chose that location was because.
227
:There was no real like,
neighborhood sports bar.
228
:It's like, right.
229
:Yeah.
230
:I love the harp and I
love the, uh, satellite.
231
:Yeah.
232
:But satellite doesn't have TVs.
233
:Mm-hmm.
234
:So sports bar was a big part
that we wanted to add there.
235
:And then Castle Street
is just up and coming.
236
:Chris: Yeah.
237
:Right.
238
:So.
239
:Well, and the harp is like still
a different part of downtown.
240
:Tara: Yeah.
241
:Yeah.
242
:It's just far enough, like there's cargo,
the south front district, downtown.
243
:Mm-hmm.
244
:We still have.
245
:Knock on wood.
246
:Guys: Right.
247
:We still
248
:Tara: have, uh, free parking
and plenty of it around there.
249
:True.
250
:And that space, we could really
utilize it the best way possible.
251
:Chris: Yeah.
252
:Yeah.
253
:No, I love it.
254
:I've, I've, me and Tyler, we joke all
the time with random ideas for new bars
255
:and things, and we're like, really?
256
:I just need to be an idea, man.
257
:Tara: Yeah.
258
:Chris: Just get paid for my ideas and
someone else can go put 'em all together.
259
:Yeah.
260
:But with good life for those
who've never been or don't really
261
:know what's going on in there.
262
:Can you tell us a little bit about
the whole place and the setup?
263
:Tara: Yeah.
264
:So, we have outdoor seating now.
265
:And it's an adult, I mean, it's
still kid friendly during the day.
266
:But I mean, it gets a little
rowdy at night, right?
267
:It's a sports bar drinking.
268
:We got a local artist to take pro golfers
actual mugshots and turn them into art.
269
:All: Oh, nice.
270
:It's pretty sweet.
271
:Yeah.
272
:And then the
273
:Tara: actor that played Shooter Mcg
Gavin, he got arrested here, so we
274
:did his too, since he played a golfer.
275
:Mm-hmm.
276
:But it's, I mean, we've got a giant
bar with a bunch of seating and then
277
:a middle bar and then a nine hole.
278
:Mini golf course.
279
:Nice.
280
:So it's a lot of fun.
281
:It's very, it's very challenging.
282
:Everybody will come in and I tell
'em there's a six stroke maximum,
283
:and if they roll their eyes, I'm
like, I'll see you on the back end.
284
:Tyler: Right, exactly.
285
:And then when you've maxed that on three
of the nine holes, like Yeah, yeah.
286
:Wait, what?
287
:Tara: Yeah, it's, it's difficult.
288
:Yeah.
289
:Because people walk in and they're
like, oh, this, they're like small
290
:holes, small courses, but yeah.
291
:They're tricky.
292
:Yeah.
293
:We put a lot of thought into, uh,
mostly the owner, but with all
294
:the holes we put a lot of thought
into how they were gonna work.
295
:Guys: Mm.
296
:Tara: But there's a hole in one
possible in every single hole.
297
:Mm-hmm.
298
:A lot of people will fight me on that.
299
:Chris: Has anyone?
300
:So two questions.
301
:One, do I win anything if I get a
hole in one besides bragging rights?
302
:Tara: Yeah.
303
:We have hole in one stamp cards, so
once you fill that up, you can get a
304
:free round of golf or a free drink.
305
:Chris: Okay.
306
:Tara: Obviously not.
307
:Really expensive bourbon.
308
:It's up to a certain amount.
309
:I mean,
310
:Chris: but it's a hole in one.
311
:Come
312
:Tara: on, man.
313
:I know.
314
:Well, that's why on the really
tricky ones, you get two stamps.
315
:Oh.
316
:but we have, we also have a bunch
of bar games on the bar tops
317
:that we have like small giveaway
prizes from local liquor reps.
318
:And there's like one where
you put a golf ball in a tee.
319
:People get obsessed with that one.
320
:Tyler: Mm.
321
:That's the one Jennifer's obsessed with.
322
:Yeah.
323
:We go there and we sit there
and the first thing she does is
324
:grab that thing and start going.
325
:I can see her still hasn't gotten it yet.
326
:So
327
:Chris: people have gotten hole in ones?
328
:Yes.
329
:Oh yeah.
330
:Oh yeah.
331
:I just wanted people to realize, oh yeah.
332
:That it is possible.
333
:And somebody besides yourself has done it.
334
:Tara: Yes.
335
:Oh yeah.
336
:Tyler: I think between Jennifer and
I, we've gotten a hole in one on
337
:every single hole so far in there.
338
:It's not often, but every
once in a while you get lucky.
339
:Yeah.
340
:Hey, somehow
341
:Chris: he still never invites me.
342
:Tyler: Well, it was
mostly on league nights.
343
:Chris: Yeah.
344
:Okay.
345
:Yeah.
346
:So, so that leads me to,
you guys do a league.
347
:Mm-hmm.
348
:Tara: Yeah.
349
:Every Wednesday we have a league.
350
:The leagues are two person teams.
351
:They last, uh, 10 weeks and we actually
have a new one coming up, right?
352
:Yeah, right Now
353
:Chris: when does that one start?
354
:Tara: The first week, or it
starts this upcoming week, but
355
:the first week is open place.
356
:So say you still wanted to
sign up late or something.
357
:Mm-hmm.
358
:Tax refund days.
359
:Tuesday True, right?
360
:Yes.
361
:Perfect.
362
:So if you wanna sign up late really you
just have to start by the first game.
363
:Chris: Okay.
364
:Yeah.
365
:Are, are you doing it again?
366
:Tyler: I need to find out how Jennifer's
schedule was because this last
367
:league that came up, Jennifer worked
like almost every single Wednesday.
368
:So I was like, okay, I
guess we'll skip that.
369
:Chris: Yeah.
370
:Uh,
371
:Tyler: she's like, I need to
schedule myself better next time.
372
:And I was like, yeah, you do.
373
:Yeah, she
374
:Chris: should.
375
:I know.
376
:I mean, I'm not off on Wednesday, so
otherwise I would've signed up for it.
377
:Tara: Yeah.
378
:Yeah.
379
:And as it grows, like
as we have more people.
380
:The first league we had 24 teams
and we realized that's kind of
381
:a lot about where we can go.
382
:'cause they, you play two
rounds every Wednesday.
383
:Oh, okay.
384
:So timing it Right.
385
:With tee times and when they
come back around to play the
386
:second round, it's making sure
everybody's not waiting too long.
387
:Mm-hmm.
388
:But also have enough time
to grab another beer drink.
389
:Tyler: Right.
390
:It is pretty impressive how you
guys had that set up though,
391
:because like you were never really
standing, waiting around at all.
392
:Tara: Yeah.
393
:Yeah.
394
:It's like
395
:Tyler: just enough time to like grab
your breath and like start back again.
396
:Tara: Yeah.
397
:There was one night this past week that we
had a lot of non-league players come in.
398
:Oh yeah.
399
:And so trying to time all of that, I
got a little anxious 'cause I was like,
400
:all right, we've got three people that
wanna play and everything's doubling up.
401
:Yeah.
402
:But we made it work Good.
403
:So good
404
:Tyler: listening.
405
:Yeah.
406
:Chris: So I heard, I'm asking all the good
questions on the front end, 'cause Tyler,
407
:I saw of them in the last interview.
408
:Uh, when you do, when you set up
this golf course, what's the theme?
409
:Tara: So,
410
:Chris: because I know most, like
many putt putt putt, many golf
411
:courses have like some sort of theme.
412
:Is it like, hey.
413
:Guys who play golf get arrested
or like, what's the kind of
414
:theme and idea behind it?
415
:Tara: So ours is more of a laid back vibe.
416
:Like we don't have the whimsical
water wheels and things like that.
417
:But it's more about having that laid back.
418
:Like you can just have fun.
419
:It's not super crazy, but it gets people
like it's a neighborhood bar feel.
420
:But with mini golf.
421
:Mm-hmm.
422
:Like two businesses in one.
423
:Our t-shirts on the back say
over par and under the influence.
424
:So really, if you're drinking
and having fun, it's okay.
425
:Good.
426
:Because I, we know our
course is challenging, but
427
:that's the fun part of it.
428
:And then people just keep playing.
429
:So I don't think we have like one
general theme, but it's just like
430
:a neighborhood sports bar feel.
431
:Okay?
432
:Mm-hmm.
433
:Yeah.
434
:We've got, uh, shot skis on wedges,
like club wedges, so that's fun.
435
:Tyler: Here we go.
436
:Day we get you and Emily to come
out and we'll do a shots to open
437
:Chris: on Mondays.
438
:Tara: Yep.
439
:Every day of the week.
440
:Chris: I mean, that's one of the
things I've I've asked for is at
441
:work, I'm always off on Monday.
442
:Yeah.
443
:I'm like, can I not be off
on Mondays because Right.
444
:Everything's closed and Oh, yeah.
445
:Like every one of the spots
I go to is closed on Mondays.
446
:Yeah.
447
:Now you have a place to go.
448
:I do.
449
:Tara: Yeah.
450
:Chris: And you guys have food now too?
451
:Yeah.
452
:Tara: Yeah.
453
:We have personal sized pizzas
that they're made in Italy and
454
:then we cook them in house.
455
:They're a lot more filling than I
expected, but they're really, really good.
456
:Chris: So are tariffs
affecting you guys too?
457
:Tara: As of right now?
458
:Say
459
:Chris: yeah.
460
:No, no.
461
:That's been the running joke.
462
:Oh yeah.
463
:At work for the last like two weeks
is every other phone call is like, are
464
:tariffs affecting the cost of all your.
465
:Yeah, sir.
466
:I work in a store.
467
:Yeah.
468
:I, I, I don't make the prices up.
469
:Tara: Yeah.
470
:Yeah.
471
:It's like there's all, like, all
the liquor reps and beer reps,
472
:and even like, uh, promo merch.
473
:Mm-hmm.
474
:Uh, designers, they're all
like, we don't know yet.
475
:We'll see.
476
:Right.
477
:We'll find out what happens.
478
:Luckily in North Carolina with
all the pricing and tax system
479
:and everything, nothing, none
of that can change for a while.
480
:Right.
481
:Even if it does affect the stores.
482
:Tyler: Yeah.
483
:That's one good thing about North
Carolina is like, it's so insulated
484
:'cause it's so government controlled.
485
:Yeah.
486
:That like, it's hard for anything
to like come like penetrate.
487
:Guys: Yeah.
488
:Tyler: Yeah.
489
:So I mean, as much as we complain
about it, I guess there is benefits
490
:when there's trade wars going on.
491
:Chris: Yeah.
492
:Yeah.
493
:I've asked a lot and I'm
letting you have one.
494
:Tyler: Oh, okay.
495
:This is like the opposite of last.
496
:Where was I gonna go before
we went down that rabbit hole?
497
:I was gonna piggyback off the, having
like a neighborhood sports bar.
498
:'cause that was always the one thing
that I like complained about too.
499
:'cause this podcast is
in the cargo district.
500
:Mm-hmm.
501
:And it's like, there's not really
anything that you can like set and
502
:like, feel at home and like watch the
game with like a bunch of people Yeah.
503
:That, that you wanna be with.
504
:And you guys opened that
and I was like that.
505
:That's pretty cool now.
506
:Tara: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
507
:And because the bar is so big
and having that middle bar
508
:Tyler: right.
509
:Guys: I
510
:Tara: believe we have 33.
511
:Bar stools.
512
:But even like people just standing
around and stuff, like, there's
513
:a lot of room to bring groups.
514
:I mean, we have birthday parties.
515
:Someone threw their son.
516
:Uh, he golfs a lot, threw him a
birthday party, but they ended up
517
:watching, uh, soccer the whole time.
518
:Oh yeah.
519
:So it was, it turned
into a sports bar party.
520
:They got everybody
involved, but it was great.
521
:That's
522
:Chris: great.
523
:So are you guys gonna
expand into Castle Hane?
524
:Tara: In Kathleen?
525
:I don't know.
526
:It could be possible.
527
:Chris: No, that's, that's
part of our running joke here.
528
:Oh yeah.
529
:'cause it's, it's like growing so much.
530
:It's, yes.
531
:And there's not, well technically
there's two bars out there.
532
:Gotcha.
533
:Which is crazy.
534
:For that big of a space
to only have two bars,
535
:Tyler: actually the one place
that's for sale would make a
536
:perfect spot for another good life.
537
:I
538
:Chris: don't know if it's.
539
:Has enough space though,
like it's very narrow.
540
:You
541
:Tyler: haven't been in this one?
542
:Tara: Yeah.
543
:When I went in to talk with the owner
I don't really call it an interview.
544
:'cause when I told him that I
wanted to have a conversation, he
545
:was like, all right, come in and
see the space and we'll just chat.
546
:But I walked in and nothing, the
bar wasn't there, nothing was there.
547
:And I was like, you wanna
put what in this place?
548
:Guys: Okay.
549
:I don't And somehow it works.
550
:Yeah.
551
:Like, because
552
:Tara: yeah.
553
:It works out really, really well.
554
:Yeah.
555
:Okay.
556
:Yeah.
557
:He showed me the blueprint and I was like,
those holes are gonna be really tiny.
558
:I don't, I thought this was supposed
to be really challenging mini golf.
559
:Mm-hmm.
560
:And then we were putting it together.
561
:The fun part of building was that, uh,
we, like, we would stay really late.
562
:There's a crab store.
563
:Mm-hmm.
564
:Oh, that's right.
565
:Yeah.
566
:And all they sold was Heineken.
567
:So we just gravitate the Heineken
and put until we got a hole in one
568
:and be like, all right, this works.
569
:Chris: That's awesome.
570
:That's.
571
:I used to get my hair cut down there.
572
:Mm-hmm.
573
:Like right across the
street from you guys.
574
:And I remember that, that
shop on the corner mm-hmm.
575
:For years.
576
:And then Colt 45 came out and that,
that always just imagined the guy,
577
:the blind man walking past that store.
578
:You know what I'm talking about?
579
:That would be, yeah.
580
:Yeah.
581
:Okay.
582
:That's funny.
583
:I don't know, I just, every time
I hear Cult 45, I just picture him
584
:walking in front of that store like.
585
:Hello
586
:Tara: lady.
587
:We're gonna have to create
that video right up front.
588
:I was gonna say, yeah, that actually
589
:Guys: gonna be fun.
590
:Just gave me a good idea.
591
:Chris: Oh my gosh.
592
:Tyler: Oh, actually, you,
one of your bartenders is at
593
:the other thing today, right?
594
:The is that today?
595
:The bartender contest?
596
:The bartender contest?
597
:Tara: Yeah.
598
:She was supposed to be, she
had a a loss in her family,
599
:so she had to go outta town.
600
:But her and I did work really well
together 'cause she hadn't bartended
601
:until I brought her to Good lie.
602
:Oh, okay.
603
:I had known her for a little bit and
I knew she worked at a restaurant
604
:downtown and I was like, Hey, if you
wanna learn bartending, I'll teach you.
605
:And that's
606
:Tyler: awesome.
607
:Tara: 'cause she's got a great personality
and, if you waitress, you can multitask.
608
:And I was like, okay, I know she can
handle the service industry at least.
609
:So I brought her in, taught her all you
need to know about bartending, and then
610
:her and I worked together on her cocktail.
611
:I was like, think of some ideas
and I'll help you build the
612
:process of building out a cocktail.
613
:Mm-hmm.
614
:Tyler: That's really neat.
615
:Yeah.
616
:Tara: But she was having fun,
617
:Tyler: so I would say that was probably a
lot of fun for her being like new in the
618
:industry too and having someone kind of
like tailor the cocktail, making part of
619
:like the artistry part of it behind it.
620
:Tara: Yeah, it's like the artistry and
then also like just figuring out balances.
621
:And I also added on
costing a cocktail with it.
622
:Oh yeah.
623
:So like say if you did want to create
a cocktail and pitch it wherever
624
:you work, I know no one's gonna work
there forever for their whole life.
625
:But, just something
transferable to anywhere else.
626
:Right.
627
:That one goes kind of, that is an
628
:Tyler: important part is pricing out a
cocktail too, because we've had people
629
:in different times that they've made
cocktails for us and they're like, I'm
630
:just gonna give you like a for warning.
631
:Like, this is 'cause you asked for this,
but like this would never go on a menu
632
:'cause it's gonna be like a $22 cocktail.
633
:Yeah.
634
:We're like, oh, okay.
635
:Tara: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
636
:They can get very expensive.
637
:Especially figuring out what you're using.
638
:Chris: Yeah.
639
:Yeah.
640
:So I.
641
:Along the cocktail line.
642
:Two questions.
643
:Mm-hmm.
644
:'cause I love this.
645
:How do you make an old fashioned
646
:Guys: Ooh.
647
:Chris: And then second question, what's
your favorite cocktail on your menu?
648
:Tara: Two very good questions.
649
:Uh, I mean,
650
:Chris: I, I have some
when I'm in that, like,
651
:Tyler: yeah.
652
:You stop falling asleep in the studio.
653
:Tara: Yeah.
654
:Old fashioned.
655
:I mean, like say you wanted an old
fashioned and you came in, I ask.
656
:What your go-to bourbon is first.
657
:Mm-hmm.
658
:Even if we don't have it, and then I
can get something along the lines of
659
:that and then build it from there.
660
:Never soda water, anybody that puts
soda water in an old fashioned,
661
:Chris: that's terrible.
662
:Yeah.
663
:It happens here in town.
664
:Yeah.
665
:Yeah.
666
:Tara: I forgot where I was, but I
was watching them make it and I saw
667
:them use the soda gun and I was like.
668
:Guys: I
669
:Tyler: don't know
670
:Guys: what you mean.
671
:Tara: It was like a 15, $16 pour bourbon.
672
:And I was like,
673
:Tyler: oh no, it's even worse.
674
:Yeah,
675
:Tara: that was bad.
676
:Okay.
677
:I mean, the go-to would be to
keep on building with like a
678
:sugar cube, a little bit of water.
679
:But most places just use simple syrup.
680
:Yeah.
681
:And then big cube.
682
:If you have them,
683
:Chris: right?
684
:If you have, yeah.
685
:Do you have big cubes?
686
:Tara: Yes.
687
:They're also in the shape of a golf ball.
688
:Chris: Mm-hmm.
689
:Nice.
690
:Yeah.
691
:So do you make those?
692
:Tara: Mm-hmm.
693
:Yeah.
694
:They're special molds that we have.
695
:Chris: Ah, okay.
696
:Tara: Yeah.
697
:Chris: Yeah.
698
:It's like I know a guy,
if you need someone.
699
:Tara: Interesting.
700
:Is it you?
701
:Chris: He's trying to
get into the business.
702
:Yeah.
703
:I told you we have so many ideas
for guys who don't actually
704
:work in the service industry.
705
:Tara: I mean ideas.
706
:So
707
:Chris: it's true.
708
:Tara: And then, I mean, I.
709
:Everybody will say there's one
way to make an old fashioned, but
710
:you can make do most of the time.
711
:Right.
712
:But that's really how I do mine.
713
:And then it's express, a
orange peel, all that jazz.
714
:Yeah.
715
:I mean, when I worked at Poorhouse and
someone ordered, uh, an old fashioned,
716
:you would just dive bart trick,
717
:Chris: squirt 'em with water.
718
:Tara: Uh, well, I would tell
someone, I'm like, Hey, I'm not
719
:gonna do an expensive bourbon.
720
:I can make you something that
tastes like an old fashioned,
721
:but you wouldn't expect it.
722
:Trick is to put a splashy jager in there.
723
:Tyler: Oh, interesting.
724
:Chris: Oh, I can totally see that.
725
:Tara: Yep.
726
:Yep.
727
:They never know.
728
:And they're like, oh wow, this is so good.
729
:Yeah.
730
:Die far trick.
731
:Chris: See, but there's the
thing, that's why I asked.
732
:So one, this is my question for the
year, for any like person in service
733
:industry, how you make an old fashioned,
because everyone makes 'em different.
734
:Yeah.
735
:And for those listening, they
can make 'em at home listening to
736
:how you guys do it and just see
which version they like the best.
737
:Guys: Yeah.
738
:Chris: Uh, number two.
739
:Like in general, I, I feel like
you're a douche if you walk into
740
:a dive bar and say, Hey, can
I have an old fashioned what?
741
:Tyler: Say, do you not
know where you're at, sir?
742
:Guys: Yeah.
743
:Chris: Yeah.
744
:Like, it's not a hard drink.
745
:That's an easy drink to make.
746
:But I feel like in a dive bar, I'm
not expecting them to have simple
747
:syrup or sugar cubes sitting here.
748
:Yeah.
749
:And to waste their time
muddling a sugar cube.
750
:Yeah.
751
:And an orange slice.
752
:Yeah.
753
:Or something like.
754
:If you're slow Sure.
755
:Yeah.
756
:Only you're the only person.
757
:I might do it.
758
:Yeah.
759
:Will I tip you well also?
760
:Yes.
761
:Yeah.
762
:But don't, don't be that
763
:Tara: guy.
764
:Yeah.
765
:Yeah.
766
:You'd be surprised.
767
:All: No.
768
:Tara: Yeah.
769
:Yeah.
770
:Probably not.
771
:All: Not in this town.
772
:Tara: Yeah.
773
:And the second question,
favorite cocktail?
774
:We did just switch up for a spring menu.
775
:There's a, a Mackay tie.
776
:It's named after the famous
golf course in Hawaii.
777
:Mm-hmm.
778
:Mm-hmm.
779
:But it's a really good ma Thai,
but I do love our transfusions.
780
:You can't go wrong with those.
781
:Tyler: I was gonna say, the transfusion
782
:Chris: is probably one
of my top favorites.
783
:You don't have a master's
like an Augusta drink?
784
:Tara: Uh, we did have an Augusta National.
785
:On the previous menu.
786
:This weekend we've been
selling a lot of azaleas.
787
:Tyler: Okay.
788
:Yeah.
789
:I just learned that that was a
thing like a couple days ago.
790
:Yeah.
791
:I was like, I didn't
even know this existed.
792
:I'm
793
:Chris: from
794
:Tyler: here and
795
:Chris: don't know what the fuck that is.
796
:Tara: It's just, it's
a drink of the masters.
797
:It's not like a transfusion
is like a golf course drink.
798
:Got you.
799
:The Azalea is just the Master's cocktail.
800
:Chris: I thought you meant
like, 'cause we're from North
801
:Carolina and the Azalea Festival.
802
:Yeah.
803
:What's the azalea?
804
:Tara: It's vodka.
805
:We do it with lemonade, but sometimes they
switch between pineapple and lemonade.
806
:Mm-hmm.
807
:And Grenadine.
808
:Guys: Okay.
809
:Chris: Yeah.
810
:Okay.
811
:Yeah, I had one.
812
:Tyler: Oh, yeah.
813
:So
814
:Chris: I just didn't know what it was.
815
:Yeah.
816
:Tyler: Yeah.
817
:I was sitting at a bar the other day
and they're like, can you make an azalea
818
:since we're watching masters in here?
819
:And I was like, oh, what?
820
:Yeah.
821
:And the, of course the bartender now.
822
:Yeah.
823
:But I was like, what?
824
:What is that?
825
:Yeah.
826
:So that was pretty neat.
827
:Tara: Yeah.
828
:It's like a.
829
:What do they call it?
830
:Dirty Shirley?
831
:Yeah.
832
:Yeah.
833
:With either pineapple or lemonade.
834
:It's like calling a Cape
Cod Vodka cranberry.
835
:Yeah.
836
:Yeah.
837
:Tyler: The fancy name
838
:Tara: No, was Cuba Libre.
839
:It's just a rum and coke lime.
840
:Tyler: I didn't know that
one had a fancy name.
841
:I did know that one.
842
:The cape.
843
:So
844
:Chris: to me
845
:Tyler: that,
846
:Chris: that sounds very douchey.
847
:Tara: Yeah.
848
:The first time someone asked
me, I wanna say I was working.
849
:In Carolina Beach, they asked
me for a Cape Cod, and I was
850
:like, what are you talking about?
851
:And then I looked it up, like I went
to the back and looked it up and I
852
:was like, it's a vodka cranberry.
853
:Yeah.
854
:Okay.
855
:Yeah.
856
:Yeah.
857
:It disappointing.
858
:Chris: Like I understand like
if it's on your menu and you do
859
:something special to the cranberry.
860
:Yeah.
861
:Like you make an infusion of
it or like you make a Yeah.
862
:Something.
863
:But just vodka cranberry.
864
:Yep.
865
:Tara: That's it.
866
:Oh, and a lime watch.
867
:Can't forget that.
868
:Yeah.
869
:Chris: Okay.
870
:That was important part.
871
:Yeah, that's citric.
872
:Tara: Yeah.
873
:Chris: Sorry.
874
:Tara: That's all it is.
875
:Tyler: All right.
876
:Ask your garnish question
now, now that we're there.
877
:Chris: Yeah, we do.
878
:So what's your opinion on garnishes?
879
:Do you do low or, or high
when it comes to them?
880
:Tara: What do you mean, low or high?
881
:Like a little bit of garnish or, yeah.
882
:As
883
:Chris: in like low to the top of the
cup, or do you want it as tall and
884
:as far away from the cup as possible?
885
:Uh, like do you stack six things on there?
886
:I.
887
:Tara: No, I mean you see the
Bloody Mary's with like shrimp
888
:and crab legs sticking out of it.
889
:Right.
890
:I'm like, well now I don't
need lunch 'cause I have this.
891
:Exactly.
892
:Chris: Mm-hmm.
893
:I mean the bloody Mary caustic amount
of lunch when you add all that in there.
894
:Tara: Yeah, true.
895
:I like to keep it, I
guess, on the lower end.
896
:Okay.
897
:Just, I mean, simple.
898
:The drink to me, I like a
drink that speaks for itself.
899
:Guys: Mm-hmm.
900
:Okay.
901
:Tara: I think a garnish
should compliment it.
902
:Like if something on the nose helps the
taste of the drink, that kind of thing.
903
:I do like the aesthetically
pleasing ones too.
904
:It's like we just put a cocktail with
a dried grapefruit slices right on
905
:top, but it also helps with the taste.
906
:It also looks really pretty.
907
:Alright.
908
:Guys: What's
909
:Tara: that drink?
910
:That one is, oh gosh.
911
:Upper core 75.
912
:Tyler: Okay.
913
:That's the one I had.
914
:Nice.
915
:Tara: Well, we had a
Clubhouse 75 Clubhouse.
916
:Clubhouse, that's what it was.
917
:Yeah, that's right.
918
:Yeah.
919
:I just switched out the name.
920
:Oh, nice, nice.
921
:And made a new drink, kind of along
the same lines of two gins, Prosecco.
922
:Right.
923
:But now it's a brighter color for
924
:Tyler: summer, summer, spring time.
925
:Oh, sweet.
926
:Yeah.
927
:I mean, do you come up
with all these on your own?
928
:Tara: Kinda.
929
:I mean, it's like any, there's a running
joke of like, put a flare on it or
930
:Guys: Right.
931
:Tara: This rift kind of thing.
932
:So I do a lot of research and
like look at other mini golf bars,
933
:kind of see what they're serving.
934
:Mm-hmm.
935
:And then.
936
:Look at other bars around town to see
kind of where they're like, what they're
937
:heavy on, like vodkas or bourbons.
938
:Guys: Mm-hmm.
939
:Tara: 'cause we do have really
great solid cocktails, but we're
940
:not a craft cocktail place.
941
:Guys: Right.
942
:Yeah.
943
:You know,
944
:Tara: it's like we do have coops
and martini glasses and stuff.
945
:It's a little.
946
:Upscale, but still, we still
wanna keep like dive bar prices.
947
:Okay.
948
:I don't wanna, none of our cocktails
will, will ever go over $15.
949
:Tyler: Okay.
950
:that was something that, that was
really neat too, like the first
951
:time that I went in because like.
952
:Going to a mini golf course,
especially in Wilmington.
953
:I was like, what do you expect?
954
:Guys: Yeah.
955
:Tyler: And so going in, I was
like, okay, there'll probably be
956
:some, like, mostly just beers.
957
:Guys: Yeah.
958
:Tyler: So I go in and you have
like a full cocktail list.
959
:You actually have a really nice
non-alcoholic list as well too for
960
:anyone out there that's doing the sober
thing now because it's getting popular.
961
:And then just like the, the upscale scale
ness of it without it being like that.
962
:Craft cocktail bar type of
price and feel as well too.
963
:Yeah.
964
:I thought it was a really nice mixture.
965
:Tara: Yeah.
966
:'cause we wanted like going
with the neighborhood sports bar
967
:feel, but then something fun and
like a try to be a go-to spot.
968
:It's just nice having a balance.
969
:And then also someone once said that,
it's like, oh well everybody else is
970
:pricing it this way so you can too.
971
:And I was like, well I
don't want to do that.
972
:Right.
973
:If we're saying we're a
neighborhood bar Yeah.
974
:Then we should have
neighborhood friendly prices.
975
:Yeah.
976
:Right.
977
:Yeah.
978
:And the na thing, we have na and then
we have THC drinks for California sober.
979
:Right.
980
:Mocktails, we actually, for
January, we brought on zero proof
981
:spirits, so most of our cocktails
you can turn into, uh, mocktails.
982
:Nice.
983
:Oh, nice.
984
:Yeah,
985
:Tyler: Jennifer, there's a, a couple na
drinks there that she was like, I kind of
986
:wanna have alcohol, but these are so good.
987
:And then it's like, well,
actually we can just add alcohol
988
:to the non-alcoholic ones.
989
:So depending on how
she's feeling that day.
990
:Guys: Yeah.
991
:Chris: So.
992
:When are you gonna have us in the bar
and show Tyler how to make a drink
993
:Tara: Anytime you want.
994
:You can make me do it
995
:Chris: now.
996
:Tara: Yeah.
997
:Chris: So here's the joke.
998
:Like I said, I actually am social
and could make drinks and be a
999
:bartender at a place where no one
knows what a bartender looks like.
:
00:29:17,282 --> 00:29:19,652
I'd be perfect if you've
met a good bartender.
:
00:29:19,652 --> 00:29:20,852
I'm not the one but.
:
00:29:21,962 --> 00:29:26,732
We tried to do one episode with Ty, with
me, with one of the bartenders downtown
:
00:29:27,212 --> 00:29:30,662
and height disparity messed up the shot.
:
00:29:30,842 --> 00:29:34,322
So then Tyler had to make a drink and
it's fun watching him being awkward.
:
00:29:34,562 --> 00:29:34,947
Oh, that's fun.
:
00:29:35,567 --> 00:29:39,767
But I think we have a height disparity
and when it comes to recording,
:
00:29:40,277 --> 00:29:41,417
Tara: you gotta get a little closer.
:
00:29:41,507 --> 00:29:41,972
Yeah, yeah,
:
00:29:42,167 --> 00:29:42,827
Tyler: yeah, yeah.
:
00:29:42,827 --> 00:29:43,667
That's how I put in there too.
:
00:29:44,627 --> 00:29:47,177
The funny thing, we did it at
under front is when I did it,
:
00:29:47,242 --> 00:29:48,202
Guys: I think I saw it in videos.
:
00:29:48,202 --> 00:29:48,482
Yeah.
:
00:29:48,552 --> 00:29:48,842
Yeah.
:
00:29:49,367 --> 00:29:52,607
Tyler: I don't know if they showed it
in the video that we put out, but you,
:
00:29:52,907 --> 00:29:54,107
there was a man, you made the video.
:
00:29:54,497 --> 00:29:54,857
I know.
:
00:29:54,857 --> 00:29:55,877
I don't know if I put it out or not.
:
00:29:56,057 --> 00:29:56,717
There's a part of it.
:
00:29:56,717 --> 00:29:59,537
There was men and she was
like, express the men.
:
00:29:59,542 --> 00:29:59,762
Mm-hmm.
:
00:29:59,957 --> 00:30:01,007
And then I just like.
:
00:30:01,632 --> 00:30:02,687
The loudest, like, yeah.
:
00:30:02,717 --> 00:30:04,242
Just like, okay, that was enough.
:
00:30:04,487 --> 00:30:04,647
Yeah.
:
00:30:05,712 --> 00:30:05,713
Like,
:
00:30:05,718 --> 00:30:05,727
Chris: okay.
:
00:30:06,027 --> 00:30:07,812
You're like, I don't know what I'm doing.
:
00:30:08,082 --> 00:30:08,952
I'm just back here.
:
00:30:09,042 --> 00:30:09,522
Tara: Yeah.
:
00:30:09,672 --> 00:30:10,002
Yeah.
:
00:30:10,512 --> 00:30:15,042
Well, the great thing about our
cocktail menu is that I built
:
00:30:15,042 --> 00:30:21,282
it also where half of the drinks
can be made like a dump and pour.
:
00:30:21,287 --> 00:30:21,437
Mm-hmm.
:
00:30:21,517 --> 00:30:21,638
Like a mm-hmm.
:
00:30:22,512 --> 00:30:23,082
Speed.
:
00:30:23,082 --> 00:30:23,862
You can crank 'em out.
:
00:30:23,862 --> 00:30:28,032
Especially people, setting people up for
the golf can make cocktails really fast.
:
00:30:28,032 --> 00:30:30,192
But then like the gins and the bourbons.
:
00:30:30,562 --> 00:30:32,542
And the rum drinks take
a little bit more time.
:
00:30:32,542 --> 00:30:32,632
Mm-hmm.
:
00:30:32,902 --> 00:30:35,242
But they're not super difficult.
:
00:30:35,242 --> 00:30:37,942
I try to keep it where you
still have that speed factor.
:
00:30:38,692 --> 00:30:39,052
Guys: Nice.
:
00:30:39,862 --> 00:30:40,192
Tyler: I feel more
:
00:30:40,192 --> 00:30:40,912
Chris: comfortable doing that.
:
00:30:42,862 --> 00:30:46,372
I'm just over here laughing because
I don't really think I'm a good
:
00:30:46,372 --> 00:30:48,442
bartender, but you'd be fine.
:
00:30:49,132 --> 00:30:49,792
I have that.
:
00:30:49,822 --> 00:30:51,682
Like I'm not gonna be nervous.
:
00:30:51,742 --> 00:30:53,722
Let's, what are we doing?
:
00:30:53,722 --> 00:30:53,962
It?
:
00:30:54,652 --> 00:30:55,402
Guys: Confidence is key.
:
00:30:55,492 --> 00:30:55,912
Yes.
:
00:30:55,912 --> 00:30:55,972
Tyler: Yeah.
:
00:30:56,032 --> 00:30:58,492
I wasn't expecting to be doing it
that day either, was the other thing.
:
00:30:58,732 --> 00:30:59,932
I was like, ah, alright,
:
00:31:00,502 --> 00:31:01,132
Chris: well go for it.
:
00:31:01,642 --> 00:31:02,842
I'm the one behind the camera.
:
00:31:02,842 --> 00:31:03,502
I'm like, you.
:
00:31:03,592 --> 00:31:03,952
Yeah.
:
00:31:04,012 --> 00:31:06,742
People know of me, but
when they ask, I'm like,
:
00:31:07,762 --> 00:31:08,062
Tara: yeah,
:
00:31:08,812 --> 00:31:10,972
Chris: if I don't have to be in front
of the camera, I'm not going to be,
:
00:31:11,512 --> 00:31:11,662
Tara: oh.
:
00:31:12,907 --> 00:31:16,507
I have our staff, like we'll do monthly
staff meetings and then we do content.
:
00:31:16,777 --> 00:31:17,017
Mm-hmm.
:
00:31:17,077 --> 00:31:18,907
And so they're all like,
well how about Terry?
:
00:31:18,907 --> 00:31:19,747
You getting one?
:
00:31:19,927 --> 00:31:23,917
'cause I'll have them redo takes and
I'm like, no, I've just, I got a vision.
:
00:31:23,917 --> 00:31:24,187
We got.
:
00:31:24,187 --> 00:31:24,277
Right.
:
00:31:25,507 --> 00:31:26,197
I'll record you.
:
00:31:26,347 --> 00:31:26,377
I
:
00:31:26,377 --> 00:31:26,917
Chris: am the director.
:
00:31:26,917 --> 00:31:27,157
Yeah.
:
00:31:27,457 --> 00:31:28,027
Yes.
:
00:31:28,267 --> 00:31:28,712
That's me.
:
00:31:30,012 --> 00:31:31,057
I'm the captain now.
:
00:31:32,737 --> 00:31:33,847
So are you from here?
:
00:31:34,267 --> 00:31:34,597
Not
:
00:31:34,597 --> 00:31:35,317
Tara: originally.
:
00:31:35,317 --> 00:31:37,057
I'm originally from Rhode Island, so.
:
00:31:37,207 --> 00:31:37,357
Okay.
:
00:31:37,357 --> 00:31:38,437
New England girl.
:
00:31:38,527 --> 00:31:40,417
But, uh, I've been down
here a very long time.
:
00:31:40,447 --> 00:31:44,947
I think I've, I wanna say 20 years.
:
00:31:45,067 --> 00:31:45,847
A little over 20 years.
:
00:31:45,852 --> 00:31:45,992
Okay.
:
00:31:45,997 --> 00:31:46,387
So
:
00:31:46,657 --> 00:31:47,737
Tyler: what brought you
down here originally?
:
00:31:48,102 --> 00:31:51,417
Tara: We wanted to get away from the snow,
and then we moved to Charlotte, North
:
00:31:51,417 --> 00:31:53,322
Carolina, like, or Monroe near there.
:
00:31:53,352 --> 00:31:53,382
Okay.
:
00:31:53,382 --> 00:31:53,562
Yeah.
:
00:31:53,652 --> 00:31:56,772
And then it was super
cold and it was snowing.
:
00:31:56,772 --> 00:31:58,752
It was like they still get snow, right?
:
00:31:58,812 --> 00:31:59,082
Yeah.
:
00:31:59,172 --> 00:31:59,742
Not far enough.
:
00:31:59,802 --> 00:32:00,102
Yeah.
:
00:32:00,102 --> 00:32:02,382
Well, my dad's job, uh,
we moved around a bit.
:
00:32:02,382 --> 00:32:04,962
Like we lived in Rhode Island,
New Hampshire, and then he could
:
00:32:04,962 --> 00:32:06,312
get transferred to the south.
:
00:32:06,312 --> 00:32:07,332
So he was like, oh, the South.
:
00:32:07,332 --> 00:32:08,472
Yeah, let's get away from the snow.
:
00:32:09,882 --> 00:32:10,182
Yeah.
:
00:32:10,392 --> 00:32:11,382
It's not south enough.
:
00:32:11,557 --> 00:32:11,572
Yeah, no.
:
00:32:12,502 --> 00:32:15,712
And then we had the opportunity to
come to the beach, and so we did.
:
00:32:16,207 --> 00:32:16,687
Guys: Oh, nice.
:
00:32:16,717 --> 00:32:16,837
Yeah,
:
00:32:17,617 --> 00:32:18,277
Chris: just curious.
:
00:32:18,547 --> 00:32:22,317
Tara: Yeah, we moved to Brunswick County,
so I went to high school out there.
:
00:32:22,377 --> 00:32:22,797
Oh, okay.
:
00:32:22,857 --> 00:32:23,037
Yep.
:
00:32:23,097 --> 00:32:24,207
I went to the early college.
:
00:32:25,377 --> 00:32:26,567
Tyler: Do you still you're young?
:
00:32:27,197 --> 00:32:27,407
Tara: Yep.
:
00:32:28,727 --> 00:32:32,777
Chris: Oh, island because the early
college was like, uh, Hanover's
:
00:32:32,777 --> 00:32:37,397
early college, like New River
County started when I was a senior.
:
00:32:38,117 --> 00:32:38,777
Gotcha.
:
00:32:38,807 --> 00:32:38,897
Okay.
:
00:32:38,897 --> 00:32:41,147
So that's how I know that's age people.
:
00:32:41,177 --> 00:32:41,447
Okay.
:
00:32:41,447 --> 00:32:41,717
Yeah.
:
00:32:42,212 --> 00:32:42,632
Yeah,
:
00:32:42,722 --> 00:32:45,362
Tara: I also look very
young, but I'm almost 30.
:
00:32:45,447 --> 00:32:45,737
Yeah.
:
00:32:45,837 --> 00:32:47,777
Yeah, I just turned 29, but yeah.
:
00:32:47,777 --> 00:32:48,292
And just the hair.
:
00:32:48,647 --> 00:32:49,037
Yeah.
:
00:32:49,517 --> 00:32:49,727
Yeah.
:
00:32:49,727 --> 00:32:51,257
It's the hair and the pale skin.
:
00:32:52,967 --> 00:32:53,537
Very Irish.
:
00:32:54,527 --> 00:32:56,672
But yeah, and it was, it
was nice being out there.
:
00:32:56,672 --> 00:32:58,892
I mean, every time I go into
Brunswick County, there's a
:
00:32:58,892 --> 00:33:00,572
million things new over there.
:
00:33:01,142 --> 00:33:03,212
But it's, I like, I love Wilmington.
:
00:33:03,212 --> 00:33:03,452
I'm.
:
00:33:04,022 --> 00:33:06,932
After high school, I went to
ECU for a year, realized I
:
00:33:06,932 --> 00:33:09,632
should transfer 'cause be smart.
:
00:33:11,137 --> 00:33:12,422
I know myself.
:
00:33:13,352 --> 00:33:15,482
So I transferred to UNCW
and finished out there.
:
00:33:15,752 --> 00:33:16,082
Tyler: Oh, nice.
:
00:33:16,922 --> 00:33:17,222
Yeah,
:
00:33:17,467 --> 00:33:22,202
Chris: I, I keep seeing video like
I was at, went to ECU for a bit and
:
00:33:22,202 --> 00:33:25,352
then I joined the National Guard
and the unit was based outside of
:
00:33:25,382 --> 00:33:27,002
east, like outside of Greenville.
:
00:33:27,092 --> 00:33:27,182
Mm-hmm.
:
00:33:27,422 --> 00:33:32,072
So for like seven years I was going
into town, drinking, doing whatever.
:
00:33:32,867 --> 00:33:36,137
I just saw the progression of them, like,
we don't wanna be a party school anymore.
:
00:33:36,137 --> 00:33:38,417
So they kept like shutting
down all the good bars.
:
00:33:38,447 --> 00:33:38,507
Yeah.
:
00:33:38,897 --> 00:33:41,507
And then I just saw a TikTok
the other day and I'm like.
:
00:33:42,272 --> 00:33:43,772
Oh, they still have bars.
:
00:33:43,802 --> 00:33:44,072
Yeah.
:
00:33:44,132 --> 00:33:46,442
I didn't know that there was
anything in town anymore.
:
00:33:46,442 --> 00:33:47,642
I thought there was only like three.
:
00:33:47,822 --> 00:33:48,272
Tara: Oh, yeah.
:
00:33:48,332 --> 00:33:48,482
Yeah.
:
00:33:48,482 --> 00:33:49,682
They've, they've grown a lot.
:
00:33:49,802 --> 00:33:52,467
Sub dogs is now like two stories now.
:
00:33:52,472 --> 00:33:53,282
Yeah, two stories.
:
00:33:53,972 --> 00:33:54,003
Oh, wow.
:
00:33:54,003 --> 00:33:54,004
Huge.
:
00:33:54,009 --> 00:33:54,107
Wow.
:
00:33:54,112 --> 00:33:54,392
Yeah.
:
00:33:54,512 --> 00:33:56,402
Chris: I'm still trying to figure
out how still life is around.
:
00:33:57,482 --> 00:33:57,782
Tara: I know.
:
00:33:57,812 --> 00:34:02,162
Well now they, I think I heard they
open up a third floor that's 25 and up.
:
00:34:03,812 --> 00:34:04,592
Oh, yeah.
:
00:34:04,892 --> 00:34:05,672
More expensive.
:
00:34:05,672 --> 00:34:07,952
Like vodka's, bourbons
up there, but I'm like.
:
00:34:08,387 --> 00:34:12,137
I don't know if I'd wanna go
through the bottom part of the No.
:
00:34:12,137 --> 00:34:12,286
To
:
00:34:12,286 --> 00:34:12,887
Tyler: get up there.
:
00:34:12,891 --> 00:34:13,002
There.
:
00:34:13,007 --> 00:34:13,967
An outdoor entrance.
:
00:34:15,077 --> 00:34:15,078
Chris: Yes.
:
00:34:15,078 --> 00:34:15,079
Yeah.
:
00:34:15,377 --> 00:34:20,147
No, I miss, so when I was at ECU,
that was back in the days when they
:
00:34:20,147 --> 00:34:21,766
were allowed to do like penny drinks.
:
00:34:22,097 --> 00:34:22,577
Oh yeah.
:
00:34:22,577 --> 00:34:22,578
Yeah.
:
00:34:22,583 --> 00:34:26,717
So we were all completely
gone every single week.
:
00:34:26,717 --> 00:34:26,987
Tara: Yeah.
:
00:34:27,962 --> 00:34:30,197
Chris: And that explains
why they've passed laws that
:
00:34:30,197 --> 00:34:31,187
you can't do that anymore.
:
00:34:31,516 --> 00:34:31,877
Tara: Yeah.
:
00:34:31,877 --> 00:34:35,387
'cause didn't, somewhere
downtown did like nickel drinks.
:
00:34:35,762 --> 00:34:36,871
Chris: Down here or up there?
:
00:34:36,871 --> 00:34:36,962
Yeah.
:
00:34:37,232 --> 00:34:38,342
Tara: No, downtown Wilmington.
:
00:34:38,342 --> 00:34:38,371
Oh
:
00:34:38,371 --> 00:34:38,672
Chris: yeah.
:
00:34:39,242 --> 00:34:42,452
So, Oliver Twist, which is
where Blind Elephant is.
:
00:34:42,692 --> 00:34:43,052
Yeah.
:
00:34:43,322 --> 00:34:47,282
That they used to do like
Thursday nights you could get like
:
00:34:47,762 --> 00:34:50,522
Nickel Bud Lights or like Yeah.
:
00:34:50,702 --> 00:34:51,902
Tencent Bud Lights.
:
00:34:52,052 --> 00:34:52,262
Yeah.
:
00:34:52,621 --> 00:34:53,612
And they firs
:
00:34:53,612 --> 00:34:56,911
Tyler: they still had penny
drinks back in my college days.
:
00:34:56,942 --> 00:34:57,302
Yeah,
:
00:34:57,302 --> 00:34:57,303
Tara: yeah.
:
00:34:57,602 --> 00:34:59,342
Well, no, someone was doing it recently.
:
00:34:59,762 --> 00:35:00,212
Oh, really?
:
00:35:00,212 --> 00:35:00,632
Was it?
:
00:35:00,662 --> 00:35:00,992
Yeah.
:
00:35:01,682 --> 00:35:03,632
I think it was one of the
clubs they were doing it.
:
00:35:03,802 --> 00:35:06,202
But I mean, I remember
when Bar had Dollar Wells
:
00:35:06,592 --> 00:35:07,162
Chris: Mondays.
:
00:35:07,162 --> 00:35:07,792
Oh yeah, that's right.
:
00:35:08,482 --> 00:35:09,052
Tara: It was a great time.
:
00:35:09,352 --> 00:35:09,562
Yeah.
:
00:35:10,252 --> 00:35:13,402
Chris: I, well, yeah, I grew up on
River Rat when it was on the corner.
:
00:35:13,822 --> 00:35:14,062
Oh yeah.
:
00:35:14,122 --> 00:35:15,292
The og, river Rat and the
:
00:35:15,292 --> 00:35:15,742
Tara: Whiskey.
:
00:35:16,132 --> 00:35:16,342
Tyler: Mm-hmm.
:
00:35:16,792 --> 00:35:17,332
Tara: Those were great.
:
00:35:18,322 --> 00:35:19,102
Tyler: It's the good old days.
:
00:35:19,162 --> 00:35:19,792
I was gonna say.
:
00:35:19,882 --> 00:35:20,962
It's not the same anymore.
:
00:35:21,172 --> 00:35:21,352
Yeah.
:
00:35:22,282 --> 00:35:22,342
I
:
00:35:22,342 --> 00:35:26,302
Chris: mean, uh, Christian
was involved with that.
:
00:35:26,422 --> 00:35:26,782
Yeah.
:
00:35:27,802 --> 00:35:29,152
You should check out his episode.
:
00:35:29,512 --> 00:35:29,602
Yeah.
:
00:35:29,602 --> 00:35:33,382
He was involved with a bunch of stuff
downtown invested in whiskey now he was
:
00:35:33,382 --> 00:35:35,632
invested in, in the Kent Street studio.
:
00:35:36,322 --> 00:35:36,472
Yeah.
:
00:35:36,472 --> 00:35:37,462
Which is where we're at now.
:
00:35:37,467 --> 00:35:37,637
Yeah.
:
00:35:38,872 --> 00:35:38,932
Tyler: Yeah.
:
00:35:40,132 --> 00:35:40,702
Great segue.
:
00:35:41,062 --> 00:35:41,212
Guys: Yeah.
:
00:35:42,772 --> 00:35:45,952
Tyler: So you, right before Covid
you had finished your masters?
:
00:35:46,012 --> 00:35:46,102
Mm-hmm.
:
00:35:46,792 --> 00:35:48,852
And was that also in marketing?
:
00:35:49,272 --> 00:35:52,512
Tara: No, actually it was in
higher education leadership.
:
00:35:52,872 --> 00:35:53,472
Tyler: Oh, okay.
:
00:35:53,832 --> 00:35:54,552
To be a principal.
:
00:35:55,017 --> 00:35:55,437
Tara: No.
:
00:35:55,437 --> 00:35:59,247
Well, I was more focused in
student affairs at colleges.
:
00:35:59,817 --> 00:35:59,848
Oh, okay.
:
00:35:59,853 --> 00:35:59,877
Okay.
:
00:35:59,877 --> 00:36:03,777
So I ran the marketing
department for campus rec.
:
00:36:03,867 --> 00:36:04,077
Guys: Mm-hmm.
:
00:36:04,377 --> 00:36:04,707
Which
:
00:36:04,707 --> 00:36:05,277
Tara: I loved.
:
00:36:05,277 --> 00:36:07,497
So I was still doing marketing.
:
00:36:07,497 --> 00:36:07,587
Mm-hmm.
:
00:36:07,887 --> 00:36:10,347
Teaching students graphic
design and all these things.
:
00:36:10,737 --> 00:36:13,987
And then doing higher ed
leadership work as well.
:
00:36:14,827 --> 00:36:15,037
Very nice.
:
00:36:15,037 --> 00:36:15,097
Yeah.
:
00:36:15,337 --> 00:36:17,077
My thesis.
:
00:36:17,467 --> 00:36:21,697
Was half a project, half thesis, but
it was towards veterans and campus
:
00:36:21,697 --> 00:36:23,197
recreation and combining those.
:
00:36:24,127 --> 00:36:24,219
Tyler: Wow, that's neat.
:
00:36:24,224 --> 00:36:24,272
Yeah.
:
00:36:24,877 --> 00:36:25,267
That's really cool.
:
00:36:25,777 --> 00:36:28,237
So you're kind of able to put like
everything together that you've
:
00:36:28,297 --> 00:36:31,897
gone to school for into what you're
doing now, and I'm sure in more
:
00:36:31,957 --> 00:36:33,697
active, possibly more fun ways.
:
00:36:33,742 --> 00:36:34,032
Tara: Yeah.
:
00:36:34,037 --> 00:36:34,807
Yeah.
:
00:36:34,807 --> 00:36:35,527
It's like I've.
:
00:36:36,307 --> 00:36:38,767
When I was preparing for this, I
was kind of looking back and I was
:
00:36:38,767 --> 00:36:42,517
like, I've done a lot of different
things, but it's brought me here.
:
00:36:42,607 --> 00:36:42,877
Guys: Right.
:
00:36:42,972 --> 00:36:46,212
Tara: I always had a foothold in service
industry, whether I was waitressing
:
00:36:46,212 --> 00:36:47,802
or bartending through all of it.
:
00:36:47,862 --> 00:36:48,102
Guys: Right.
:
00:36:48,272 --> 00:36:53,312
Tara: And it just kind of grew into this,
like did the marketing communication.
:
00:36:53,312 --> 00:36:53,402
Mm-hmm.
:
00:36:53,902 --> 00:36:55,372
And then went on to higher ed.
:
00:36:55,402 --> 00:36:58,252
Love working with students, building
community, connecting with people.
:
00:36:58,252 --> 00:36:58,342
Right.
:
00:36:58,552 --> 00:37:01,282
Teaching transferable
skills in any way possible.
:
00:37:01,827 --> 00:37:04,887
So still being able to, to do
that with the community here
:
00:37:04,887 --> 00:37:07,167
through a fun, unique bar
:
00:37:07,172 --> 00:37:07,462
Guys: Yeah.
:
00:37:08,637 --> 00:37:10,527
Tara: Is kind of became the goal.
:
00:37:10,797 --> 00:37:11,007
Tyler: Nice.
:
00:37:11,397 --> 00:37:11,547
Yeah.
:
00:37:11,547 --> 00:37:12,957
It's the best of all the worlds.
:
00:37:12,987 --> 00:37:13,347
Yes.
:
00:37:13,377 --> 00:37:13,827
Yeah.
:
00:37:13,827 --> 00:37:14,397
That's cool.
:
00:37:15,597 --> 00:37:16,077
Chris: What are y'all doing
:
00:37:16,077 --> 00:37:16,377
Tyler: tomorrow?
:
00:37:18,237 --> 00:37:18,597
Chris: Monday?
:
00:37:18,747 --> 00:37:18,927
Tyler: Yeah.
:
00:37:19,352 --> 00:37:19,742
Chris: I don't know.
:
00:37:20,012 --> 00:37:21,722
I'm on spring break, so Okay.
:
00:37:21,932 --> 00:37:22,562
We'll figure something out.
:
00:37:22,567 --> 00:37:23,582
Might have some You
might come in tomorrow.
:
00:37:24,062 --> 00:37:24,122
Yeah.
:
00:37:24,302 --> 00:37:24,812
Which.
:
00:37:26,897 --> 00:37:29,027
All these things, like you
mentioned combine and you're doing
:
00:37:29,027 --> 00:37:30,377
a great job in the community.
:
00:37:30,887 --> 00:37:35,747
I haven't heard nay a bad word about
good lie or yourself says a lot.
:
00:37:36,557 --> 00:37:41,358
Which does lead me to my question,
what does success look like for you?
:
00:37:42,012 --> 00:37:42,232
So
:
00:37:43,517 --> 00:37:46,007
Tara: success for me is
kind of in two parts.
:
00:37:46,007 --> 00:37:50,897
Like individual success
is having freedom where.
:
00:37:51,242 --> 00:37:54,212
I work really hard, but I
love to travel the world.
:
00:37:54,242 --> 00:37:54,332
Mm-hmm.
:
00:37:54,572 --> 00:37:59,402
So having that freedom where I can step
away from the business, not like leave
:
00:37:59,402 --> 00:38:03,272
the business, but I can leave for two
weeks and trust that everything that
:
00:38:03,272 --> 00:38:07,892
I've done and people that I've hired,
it will run smoothly if I'm not there.
:
00:38:08,322 --> 00:38:12,522
So just having that freedom to
live and travel and all of that.
:
00:38:13,002 --> 00:38:13,722
But then.
:
00:38:15,177 --> 00:38:18,237
Business success, like
sales are wonderful, right?
:
00:38:18,327 --> 00:38:23,277
Increasing sales all day
good is the peak of success.
:
00:38:23,277 --> 00:38:31,437
But really to me, it's when people come in
and they're showing true joy, like whether
:
00:38:31,437 --> 00:38:33,237
it's really enjoying a cocktail mm-hmm.
:
00:38:33,477 --> 00:38:35,457
Or just having fun meeting someone new.
:
00:38:35,877 --> 00:38:37,227
We have a lot of first dates.
:
00:38:37,377 --> 00:38:37,527
Guys: Mm-hmm.
:
00:38:37,887 --> 00:38:39,507
Tara: It's a perfect first date spot.
:
00:38:39,847 --> 00:38:42,757
But people cheering on the
course having a good time.
:
00:38:43,027 --> 00:38:44,917
'cause there's a million
things to do here.
:
00:38:45,217 --> 00:38:45,517
Guys: Yes.
:
00:38:45,632 --> 00:38:48,122
Tara: And people that come
in, they're choosing to spend
:
00:38:48,122 --> 00:38:49,442
their time and money with us.
:
00:38:49,802 --> 00:38:56,492
And so I want success to me as them truly
valuing where they've spent their time.
:
00:38:56,672 --> 00:38:56,852
Nice.
:
00:38:58,412 --> 00:38:58,742
Tyler: I like it.
:
00:38:59,072 --> 00:39:02,132
So after looking forward a little bit to
take a look back, if you could tell your
:
00:39:02,132 --> 00:39:03,632
younger self one thing, what would it be?
:
00:39:04,647 --> 00:39:04,867
Guys: Ooh.
:
00:39:07,802 --> 00:39:07,982
Got
:
00:39:07,982 --> 00:39:08,042
Tara: em.
:
00:39:11,132 --> 00:39:17,222
I would tell myself, summer bartending
is fun and great, but save all that extra
:
00:39:17,222 --> 00:39:19,832
money you made for the winter months.
:
00:39:20,612 --> 00:39:21,362
Definitely.
:
00:39:21,692 --> 00:39:24,422
It's like everybody's all
hanging out, having a great time.
:
00:39:24,992 --> 00:39:27,782
Spending all their money and then
winter time comes around, you're like,
:
00:39:27,962 --> 00:39:29,852
crap, how much did I make this summer?
:
00:39:30,002 --> 00:39:30,272
Right.
:
00:39:31,412 --> 00:39:32,012
Chris: I didn't realize that.
:
00:39:32,012 --> 00:39:34,202
This is a good point
in moving drastic here.
:
00:39:34,202 --> 00:39:34,562
Yeah,
:
00:39:34,622 --> 00:39:35,702
Tara: yeah, yeah.
:
00:39:35,852 --> 00:39:38,912
And normally it's not
too, too bad, but the.
:
00:39:40,097 --> 00:39:41,952
I mean, dry January mm-hmm.
:
00:39:42,032 --> 00:39:42,752
Takes a big hit.
:
00:39:42,752 --> 00:39:42,753
Mm-hmm.
:
00:39:42,957 --> 00:39:46,707
And then usually the march, April,
there's a big lull for service industry.
:
00:39:46,737 --> 00:39:48,117
'cause everybody gears up for St.
:
00:39:48,117 --> 00:39:49,437
Patrick's and then Ah, yes.
:
00:39:49,497 --> 00:39:51,237
And then they get a hang has
a hangover for two weeks.
:
00:39:51,352 --> 00:39:51,472
Right.
:
00:39:51,987 --> 00:39:52,137
Yeah.
:
00:39:52,317 --> 00:39:56,727
And then Azalea Fest and there's
kind of drop off before, like end of
:
00:39:56,727 --> 00:39:58,677
school, spring break, all of that.
:
00:39:58,767 --> 00:39:58,947
Yeah.
:
00:39:59,727 --> 00:39:59,877
Tyler: Yeah.
:
00:39:59,937 --> 00:40:04,347
We have a friend that started
Leland Brewing and uh, when he was.
:
00:40:05,157 --> 00:40:07,557
First, like the first year,
like, oh, this is great.
:
00:40:07,557 --> 00:40:08,367
Like we're doing awesome.
:
00:40:08,577 --> 00:40:12,777
The first dry January that they
had, they're like, this is real.
:
00:40:13,047 --> 00:40:13,167
Yeah.
:
00:40:13,167 --> 00:40:15,177
Like people actually
don't drink in January.
:
00:40:15,237 --> 00:40:15,327
Yeah.
:
00:40:15,332 --> 00:40:19,137
Like they were really surprised, like
how far the numbers like kind of dropped.
:
00:40:19,287 --> 00:40:19,407
Yeah.
:
00:40:19,437 --> 00:40:24,057
They were like, it wasn't terrible, but it
was like Enough to make you like worried.
:
00:40:24,387 --> 00:40:24,567
Tara: Yeah.
:
00:40:25,047 --> 00:40:25,437
It's like,
:
00:40:25,497 --> 00:40:25,857
Tyler: oh
:
00:40:26,727 --> 00:40:26,967
Tara: yeah.
:
00:40:26,967 --> 00:40:30,172
And that's why the whole like
Nas, the mocktails mm-hmm.
:
00:40:30,257 --> 00:40:31,527
Have grown so much because Right.
:
00:40:32,352 --> 00:40:36,552
Hospitality industry takes a huge
hit in January, which is, I mean,
:
00:40:37,632 --> 00:40:40,842
everybody should take a break from
drinking if they want or need one.
:
00:40:41,202 --> 00:40:42,822
But really you can take
a break anytime you want.
:
00:40:42,942 --> 00:40:44,892
It's just everybody collectively doing it.
:
00:40:44,952 --> 00:40:47,832
Yes, they're not going out to
restaurants and things like that.
:
00:40:47,912 --> 00:40:51,252
But providing a solution I
had so many people come in
:
00:40:51,252 --> 00:40:52,632
in January that were excited.
:
00:40:52,632 --> 00:40:56,232
We had zero proof cocktails
and other mocktails and stuff.
:
00:40:56,292 --> 00:40:56,502
Guys: Yeah.
:
00:40:56,507 --> 00:40:56,517
Yeah.
:
00:40:56,694 --> 00:41:00,444
Tara: And us being a new business,
we've only been open just a
:
00:41:00,444 --> 00:41:01,704
year, little over six months.
:
00:41:02,124 --> 00:41:02,604
Chris: Oh six.
:
00:41:02,604 --> 00:41:03,024
Oh gosh.
:
00:41:03,024 --> 00:41:03,354
Yeah,
:
00:41:03,624 --> 00:41:05,124
Tara: yeah, yeah.
:
00:41:05,124 --> 00:41:07,614
End of the last weekend of
September is when we opened.
:
00:41:07,834 --> 00:41:10,864
But I mean, we've still
been growing ever since.
:
00:41:11,344 --> 00:41:11,644
Tyler: Yeah.
:
00:41:11,644 --> 00:41:13,834
Every time that I've been in there,
it's been more and more people.
:
00:41:13,894 --> 00:41:13,984
Yeah.
:
00:41:13,984 --> 00:41:15,994
Like even on, like I think the
last time we were in there was
:
00:41:15,994 --> 00:41:19,594
like a random, like Tuesday or
something and it was still, yeah.
:
00:41:20,014 --> 00:41:22,084
And it was still like quite
a few people in there.
:
00:41:22,294 --> 00:41:22,564
Guys: Yeah.
:
00:41:23,044 --> 00:41:24,454
Tyler: And like, and off time too.
:
00:41:24,454 --> 00:41:26,584
I think we went like at four
o'clock, like on a Tuesday.
:
00:41:26,584 --> 00:41:27,094
It was weird.
:
00:41:27,184 --> 00:41:27,484
Tara: Yeah.
:
00:41:27,489 --> 00:41:29,334
Tyler: But but yeah, there's
still quite a few people in there.
:
00:41:29,934 --> 00:41:30,204
Yeah.
:
00:41:31,074 --> 00:41:31,224
Tara: Yeah.
:
00:41:31,224 --> 00:41:35,724
And we're, I mean, when we first started,
I had a big marketing plan for mm-hmm.
:
00:41:35,964 --> 00:41:38,034
Like opening business, new
business and everything.
:
00:41:38,034 --> 00:41:39,594
So I've just started readjusting.
:
00:41:39,594 --> 00:41:43,014
So, we have some really great
specials coming out soon.
:
00:41:43,164 --> 00:41:45,444
Like obviously we can't do a
happy hour with drinks, but
:
00:41:45,444 --> 00:41:47,394
happy hour golf could be a thing.
:
00:41:47,634 --> 00:41:48,174
True, yeah.
:
00:41:48,264 --> 00:41:51,529
But yeah, we've been trying
to push as much as we can to
:
00:41:52,069 --> 00:41:53,239
not have too much of a oil.
:
00:41:53,509 --> 00:41:53,629
Yeah.
:
00:41:53,629 --> 00:41:55,129
But, uh, still grow.
:
00:41:55,159 --> 00:41:57,559
'cause there's new bars popping
up everywhere all the time.
:
00:41:57,859 --> 00:41:58,789
There really is.
:
00:41:58,849 --> 00:41:59,209
Yeah.
:
00:42:00,019 --> 00:42:06,019
I mean, Azalea, or not, was
it Azalea Station or, uh.
:
00:42:07,804 --> 00:42:08,194
Was it St.
:
00:42:08,194 --> 00:42:08,734
Patrick's Day?
:
00:42:08,734 --> 00:42:10,054
Three bars open at one weekend.
:
00:42:10,379 --> 00:42:11,704
Tyler: Oh, oh yeah, that's right.
:
00:42:11,704 --> 00:42:11,794
Like
:
00:42:11,794 --> 00:42:12,094
Guys: what?
:
00:42:12,454 --> 00:42:16,234
Tara: Yeah, there's the
string and Key Odin.
:
00:42:16,234 --> 00:42:16,594
Oh yeah.
:
00:42:16,954 --> 00:42:17,884
And the Rift.
:
00:42:17,939 --> 00:42:18,399
Tyler: The Rift?
:
00:42:18,399 --> 00:42:18,559
Tara: Yeah.
:
00:42:18,559 --> 00:42:18,994
That's the
:
00:42:18,994 --> 00:42:19,144
Tyler: one.
:
00:42:19,384 --> 00:42:19,894
All: Odin
:
00:42:20,494 --> 00:42:21,004
Tara: Odin Brewing?
:
00:42:21,034 --> 00:42:21,124
Mm-hmm.
:
00:42:21,364 --> 00:42:21,454
Where?
:
00:42:21,454 --> 00:42:22,294
New Anthem City.
:
00:42:22,384 --> 00:42:22,714
Chris: Oh, okay.
:
00:42:22,834 --> 00:42:23,344
Nevermind.
:
00:42:23,344 --> 00:42:26,104
I, I know somebody there.
:
00:42:26,524 --> 00:42:26,824
Tyler: Oh, really?
:
00:42:27,094 --> 00:42:27,334
Tara: Yeah.
:
00:42:27,844 --> 00:42:29,344
Chris: I somehow have a connection.
:
00:42:30,844 --> 00:42:31,834
Tyler: I was, forget about that place.
:
00:42:31,834 --> 00:42:31,894
I.
:
00:42:32,614 --> 00:42:32,674
So
:
00:42:33,184 --> 00:42:33,454
Chris: apparently
:
00:42:34,204 --> 00:42:35,404
Tara: they've done really
great work in there.
:
00:42:35,404 --> 00:42:35,464
Yeah.
:
00:42:35,549 --> 00:42:36,454
I haven't been in there yet,
:
00:42:36,604 --> 00:42:38,254
Chris: but their beer is actually good.
:
00:42:38,254 --> 00:42:40,084
They were at Feast.
:
00:42:40,504 --> 00:42:41,614
Uh, they were Oh, nice.
:
00:42:41,884 --> 00:42:46,024
Partnered with somebody and like,
I was there for work, so I, like,
:
00:42:46,054 --> 00:42:49,024
at the end of my cycle, I walked
through and I tried theirs.
:
00:42:49,294 --> 00:42:54,424
I was like, this is actually like
for a spot that's so new to have like
:
00:42:54,424 --> 00:42:55,984
decent beer is actually really nice.
:
00:42:56,164 --> 00:42:56,284
Tara: Yeah.
:
00:42:56,284 --> 00:42:56,494
Yeah.
:
00:42:57,724 --> 00:43:01,314
Tyler: Yeah, you guys have a good rotating
draft lift list and stuff too, I guess.
:
00:43:01,314 --> 00:43:02,784
Not too rotating, but
:
00:43:03,054 --> 00:43:03,774
Tara: we do.
:
00:43:03,884 --> 00:43:07,394
It's like we have main,
uh, lunch IPA, right?
:
00:43:07,394 --> 00:43:07,454
Yeah.
:
00:43:07,724 --> 00:43:08,984
Which is our biggest seller.
:
00:43:08,984 --> 00:43:12,314
It's a fantastic IPA, but the
rest of the beers, I really
:
00:43:12,314 --> 00:43:13,784
like to have a variety, so.
:
00:43:13,784 --> 00:43:13,874
Mm-hmm.
:
00:43:14,444 --> 00:43:16,814
There's some kind of
draft for everyone, right.
:
00:43:16,994 --> 00:43:20,654
And like we have a cider 'cause
we also do so saki cider bombs.
:
00:43:20,984 --> 00:43:21,044
Oh.
:
00:43:21,144 --> 00:43:22,344
They're very good.
:
00:43:22,704 --> 00:43:23,304
How much cider do
:
00:43:23,304 --> 00:43:23,904
Chris: you guys have?
:
00:43:24,234 --> 00:43:27,984
Tara: Uh, right now we rotate on flavors,
but right now we have a peach mango.
:
00:43:28,524 --> 00:43:29,244
Chris: That sounds good.
:
00:43:29,334 --> 00:43:29,514
Yeah.
:
00:43:29,514 --> 00:43:31,314
There jalapeno in it
or is just peach mango?
:
00:43:31,314 --> 00:43:31,914
Just peach mango.
:
00:43:32,274 --> 00:43:33,114
Oh, then I can try it.
:
00:43:33,294 --> 00:43:33,534
Yeah.
:
00:43:33,984 --> 00:43:34,134
Tara: Yeah.
:
00:43:34,164 --> 00:43:34,704
That's really good.
:
00:43:34,704 --> 00:43:36,834
But yeah, we do rotating
sours from Edmond Zos.
:
00:43:36,864 --> 00:43:39,054
'cause can't do wrong by their sours.
:
00:43:39,104 --> 00:43:42,194
But then we also have Edmond
Zos, they're in Charleston.
:
00:43:42,194 --> 00:43:44,264
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah.
:
00:43:44,354 --> 00:43:45,044
And then.
:
00:43:45,509 --> 00:43:47,519
Light beer, something crushable,
:
00:43:47,819 --> 00:43:48,119
Guys: right?
:
00:43:48,179 --> 00:43:48,449
Tara: Yeah.
:
00:43:48,509 --> 00:43:53,279
And then usually we have two
local rotating just depends.
:
00:43:53,279 --> 00:43:55,859
We kind of like to spread
out our local love, so it'll
:
00:43:55,859 --> 00:43:57,449
just be rotating local beers.
:
00:43:57,959 --> 00:43:58,109
Chris: Cool.
:
00:43:58,349 --> 00:43:58,589
Yeah.
:
00:43:59,339 --> 00:43:59,579
Guys: Cool.
:
00:44:00,509 --> 00:44:03,359
Chris: How can people
shout out the company?
:
00:44:03,659 --> 00:44:07,169
So keep up with you guys and see
what's going on here in the next
:
00:44:07,169 --> 00:44:08,969
couple months and years in the future.
:
00:44:09,794 --> 00:44:12,914
Tara: So most of our stuff we
put out is on Instagram and then
:
00:44:12,914 --> 00:44:14,264
shared through Facebook and stuff.
:
00:44:14,264 --> 00:44:18,244
We have our website we do post on
TikTok, but Instagram is really the place
:
00:44:18,244 --> 00:44:19,984
where we do daily updates all the time.
:
00:44:20,164 --> 00:44:20,374
Cool.
:
00:44:20,824 --> 00:44:22,624
Chris: How do you, what's
the handle for that one?
:
00:44:22,684 --> 00:44:23,644
Tara: It is good lie.
:
00:44:23,644 --> 00:44:25,359
Wilm, WYLM.
:
00:44:25,709 --> 00:44:25,999
Okay.
:
00:44:27,709 --> 00:44:29,134
Tyler: Thanks so much for coming on.
:
00:44:29,134 --> 00:44:33,424
We appreciate you coming in and
telling us about it, and I'll try
:
00:44:33,424 --> 00:44:37,294
to make sure I remember to put this
in order and try to get this out.
:
00:44:38,389 --> 00:44:39,139
Wednesday.
:
00:44:39,139 --> 00:44:39,169
Okay.
:
00:44:39,499 --> 00:44:43,819
So if someone listens to it, they can
still try the you said this Wednesday
:
00:44:43,819 --> 00:44:46,934
is like the first open, the open play
where you can practice and that Okay.
:
00:44:46,939 --> 00:44:47,059
Yeah.
:
00:44:47,299 --> 00:44:47,479
Guys: Yeah.
:
00:44:48,139 --> 00:44:50,449
Tyler: We'll do that and hopefully
get some more people out there
:
00:44:50,449 --> 00:44:52,249
and check it out and go on.
:
00:44:52,249 --> 00:44:54,379
But it seems like the leagues
have been staying pretty full.
:
00:44:54,439 --> 00:44:54,799
Yeah.
:
00:44:54,804 --> 00:44:55,429
So we're
:
00:44:55,429 --> 00:44:57,679
Tara: definitely need some
