Boys:

welcome back to the Whiskey and Wisdom Podcast, everyone.

2

:

I am your co-host, Tyler Yaw,

and this week, I'm with my

3

:

constant co-host, Chris Kellum.

4

:

What's happening?

5

:

And our special guest

today is Katelyn Goff.

6

:

Kait: Hey.

7

:

Boys: And she is the owner of

Grounds of Grace, the coffee truck

8

:

that's almost always at Mayfair

Flats, and I frequent very often.

9

:

Kait: Yep.

10

:

We see you every week.

11

:

Boys: Yep, exactly.

12

:

So I appreciate you being out there.

13

:

The, the joke that actually isn't a

joke 'cause it's true, I've actually

14

:

had more coffee at coffee trucks- Hey

… specifically yours than I've ever been

15

:

inside of an actual coffee shop this year.

16

:

Kait: That's not a bad thing.

17

:

Boys: So.

18

:

No, it's

19

:

Kait: her prize.

20

:

We love having it.

21

:

Boys: You're right.

22

:

Yeah, it's her prize.

23

:

And our one of our newest hires, one of

my coworkers here, she worked at Starbucks

24

:

for years and years during college.

25

:

Kait: Yeah.

26

:

Boys: And she ended up just

traveling places and trying

27

:

coffees and everything like that.

28

:

She loves your coffee.

29

:

Kait: Oh, my goodness.

30

:

Yeah.

31

:

I love

32

:

Boys: that.

33

:

So.

34

:

That's amazing.

35

:

Yeah, very, very high accolades.

36

:

Good to hear.

37

:

Good to hear.

38

:

Like, if she's saying that the coffee

is good- … like, I trust her.

39

:

She, she knows what

40

:

Kait: she's saying.

41

:

That's so good to hear.

42

:

Boys: And I, I will say, if Tyler

starts speaking very, very, very

43

:

fast, it's because- … he got

an infusion of coffee- Yeah.

44

:

From you.

45

:

Kait: Oh, perfect.

46

:

Yeah.

47

:

Boys: so- That can have sip

anything … tell us, what is this?

48

:

Do you sell this out of your truck?

49

:

Mm-hmm.

50

:

What is, what

51

:

Kait: is this?

52

:

Yeah, so that's what we're

known for, is our can lattes.

53

:

So they can store in the

fridge for a few days.

54

:

They're just another type of cup that a

lot of people enjoy having, and they're

55

:

super convenient, too, because you can

shake 'em up, you can, throw 'em around

56

:

and they won't leak or spill or anything.

57

:

So it's definitely a fun kind

of alternative to a regular cup.

58

:

Boys: Yeah.

59

:

And if Jennifer sees that they're

gonna be right down the road from me

60

:

and she has to work that night, she

tells me to get it with either light

61

:

ice or no ice- Yep … so I can put

it in the fridge or bring it to work.

62

:

Keep it

63

:

Kait: for later.

64

:

Boys: Yep.

65

:

That makes sense.

66

:

So…

67

:

I am a non-coffee drinker.

68

:

Which is why I didn't ask

him to bring me any coffee.

69

:

But where do you source your coffee

70

:

Kait: to start with?

71

:

We use a local roaster.

72

:

No, you're fine.

73

:

We use Raleigh Coffee Company.

74

:

Okay.

75

:

Okay.

76

:

So, Joseph Land is one of…

77

:

I'm actually pretty close with

him now I feel like- I'm sure

78

:

'cause I have to get so many beans.

79

:

But he's amazing, super high quality.

80

:

He gets them from, different

countries to kinda support those

81

:

people over in those countries.

82

:

And he just does an amazing job roasting.

83

:

We've never had any issues.

84

:

It's super consistent.

85

:

And definitely, like, local.

86

:

I'm from Clayton, so Raleigh-

Okay … is super close to me.

87

:

Yeah.

88

:

So there's a lot of coffee shops in the

area kind of out that direction that use

89

:

him, which is how I kind of found him.

90

:

And just started using it, and

everybody seems to love it here,

91

:

so we just keep rolling with it.

92

:

Boys: Very nice.

93

:

You also mentioned, I think

before we started rolling, that

94

:

you're a photographer as well.

95

:

Kait: Yes.

96

:

Boys: My biggest question is even

though being a photographer and

97

:

a full-time student, what made

you think, "Hey, you know what?

98

:

I need to open a coffee truck."

99

:

Kait: Yeah, I've always been the type of

person that, like, can never sit still.

100

:

Mm-hmm.

101

:

I can't…

102

:

I get bored very easily, so having

something continuously kind of

103

:

shifting around is really fun for me.

104

:

Mm-hmm.

105

:

And honestly just challenging myself

to push, and reach things p- that I've

106

:

never even thought of doing before.

107

:

So this coffee thing kind of came around

when I was sitting in my anatomy lab.

108

:

Crazy, random thought.

109

:

I was just kind of thinking, "What

can I do, post-college that might

110

:

not make me go to grad school?"

111

:

Even though I would love-

Mm … to go to grad school.

112

:

I was just kind of thinking

of alternatives that I could

113

:

do, like, starting now.

114

:

I didn't think it would

get this big this fast.

115

:

Yeah … but just something else

I could do to, add to my plate

116

:

and kind of have a little bit of

fun while I'm still in college.

117

:

And I kind of just figured out

what I wanted to do coffee-wise.

118

:

I love going to coffee shops and sitting-

Mm … and studying, and I feel like

119

:

I'm at one every day we're not set up.

120

:

And so really just being able to,

like, do something different that

121

:

I had never done before and just

challenge myself to try something

122

:

new was the main, kind of main- Wow

123

:

goal behind everything, but…

124

:

Boys: So with no coffee background,

how did you get into, like, learning,

125

:

like, "Okay, this is the type of,

like, espresso machine that I need."

126

:

Yeah.

127

:

"This is the type of beans that I need to

use," like, going down that rabbit hole?

128

:

Kait: It was a lot of TikTok, YouTube,

and asking other people questions.

129

:

Okay.

130

:

I had never touched an espresso machine

before I started the coffee trailer.

131

:

Actually, my mom had a Breville at

home that she used all the time.

132

:

I had never touched it before.

133

:

Two weeks before we got the big one

installed in the trailer- Mm … I

134

:

bought my own Breville, spent hours and

hours trying to figure it out on there.

135

:

It's not anywhere near the same

comparing the residential- For sure.

136

:

Yeah … versus commercial machine,

but it did kind of help me.

137

:

Just playing around with things and-

Yeah … looking up questions that I had

138

:

to kind of figure it out on my own was

the biggest kind of thing, but yeah, I

139

:

never even touched it before opening this.

140

:

Boys: So, so my non-coffee

person question.

141

:

Mm-hmm.

142

:

Does it make a difference when you

pack it in if it's flat or if you

143

:

have, like, one of those funky designs-

144

:

Kait: So there's a lot of- … flavored

… different things that you can use.

145

:

We use just, like, a spinning

leveler, so we put the leveler on

146

:

and it just kind of spins itself

if we twist it a couple times.

147

:

If you don't level it before, it

can kind of mess around with, like,

148

:

the grind, like, itself and just

the way the water pulls through it.

149

:

Mm-hmm.

150

:

So if you don't level it or tamp

it correctly with a certain amount

151

:

of pressure, it all pulls different

water rates and the extraction's

152

:

gonna be super messed up.

153

:

So definitely had to mess around

with that a little bit prior to

154

:

opening because I had absolutely

no clue what I was doing first.

155

:

Boys: That's crazy.

156

:

Yeah.

157

:

See- Yeah … for a guy who

doesn't drink coffee, I have-

158

:

Kait: Yeah, it, it plays- Random

knowledge … a lot more of a, I feel like

159

:

a larger role than a lot of people think.

160

:

Yeah.

161

:

Because if you don't tamp it

right, it won't pull right, so.

162

:

Boys: Mm-hmm.

163

:

Oh, wow.

164

:

Kait: It's pretty, pretty crazy.

165

:

Boys: Ooh.

166

:

Do you come up with all of the flavors?

167

:

Especially, you're really known for

the seasonal flavors, and everything

168

:

Kait: that comes out.

169

:

Yeah.

170

:

So our rotating seasonal menu is

definitely the biggest thing that we have.

171

:

Mm-hmm.

172

:

We have a lot of popular ones

on our specialty drink menu.

173

:

Mm-hmm.

174

:

We're actually about to shift into

our summer menu- Mm … probably

175

:

the end of next week.

176

:

I'm trying to nail down

the rest of those flavors.

177

:

Yeah.

178

:

But experimenting and coming up with

different flavor combinations that, I

179

:

don't really see everywhere is super fun

just to kinda give everybody a different,

180

:

different kind of flavor combination

that they may not have tried before, but-

181

:

Boys: Yeah.

182

:

Kait: Yeah … it's definitely-

183

:

Boys: It's, that-

184

:

… Kait: experimental

185

:

… Boys: definitely the biggest thing is

your flavors are definitely very unique

186

:

compared- Yeah … to what anyone

else has, and, and they all work.

187

:

Yeah.

188

:

Which is the other

thing that's crazy, too.

189

:

Kait: And coming from someone…

190

:

I'm very…

191

:

I'm not a huge, like…

192

:

I don't like many flavor combinations.

193

:

Mm-hmm.

194

:

So it's hard for me to kinda put things

together I don't think I would like.

195

:

So I have a lot of the girls that

work for me trying them for me like-

196

:

Boys: Right.

197

:

Oh, nice

198

:

… Kait: yeah, different combos that

I would've never expected in coffee

199

:

that they whip up when we're working,

and- Mm-hmm … they end up loving it.

200

:

Some of those have ended

up on our menu, so-

201

:

Boys: Yeah

202

:

… Kait: it's kinda, kinda fun

to just mess around with it.

203

:

Boys: What's your favorite, then?

204

:

Kait: That's hard.

205

:

It depends on the day.

206

:

Sure.

207

:

One of my favorite ones is the coconut

bomb that we have, which is like the-

208

:

That's a top tier … brown sugar coconut.

209

:

Yeah.

210

:

Yeah, that's one of our top ones.

211

:

I love the crème brûlée, not

super early- Mm … in the

212

:

morning 'cause it does- Right.

213

:

… I feel like tastes exactly like the crème

brûlée dessert, but that's super good.

214

:

That's one of my favorites, and then I'm

just an iced vanilla latte girl, too.

215

:

Mm-hmm.

216

:

So half the time I just get that.

217

:

I drank one of those

this morning, actually.

218

:

Yeah.

219

:

But I kinda mess around with some

other things, too, just for fun.

220

:

But-

221

:

Boys: Nice.

222

:

Kait: That's neat … those

are my top three.

223

:

Boys: What made you wanna

go the canned latte route?

224

:

It's very unique.

225

:

Kait: Wilmington didn't have it.

226

:

Right.

227

:

Wilmington is known for their coffee.

228

:

And there's a ton of them.

229

:

There's a lot of- Mm-hmm

230

:

mobile coffee shops popping up everywhere.

231

:

And so honestly, just like figuring

out a niche that Wilmington didn't

232

:

have and kinda- Right … bringing

that to the table to where, people

233

:

m- I've heard a lot of people tell

me they've never seen it before.

234

:

Mm-hmm.

235

:

And that was kinda my goal, was to

serve something that like no one had

236

:

ever seen before and just kinda bring

people in that way and be able to share a

237

:

different message along with it as well.

238

:

Boys: Yeah.

239

:

You also have the flights-

Yes … which is also very unique

240

:

for having a coffee trailer

241

:

Kait: too.

242

:

Yeah, and it has definitely thrown us

for a loop at some points because- I can

243

:

believe that … it takes quite a bit

longer because it's four different drinks.

244

:

Yeah.

245

:

But it's definitely super popular,

and a lot of people love being

246

:

able to try multiple flavors.

247

:

Right.

248

:

And I actually…

249

:

The flights were something I wasn't

gonna start with, and then I was

250

:

like, "I might as well go all in."

251

:

And so I got- Yeah … the

custom cans, custom flight boxes

252

:

made strictly for those cans.

253

:

And a lot of the, like, flights

that you see at coffee shops,

254

:

you can't take them to go.

255

:

Right.

256

:

But since we have the cans, it's super

easy because our flight containers

257

:

are compostable and everything.

258

:

So you can, use them afterwards

or just take them home.

259

:

And they're cardboard, so you

can use them for something else.

260

:

And then save three out of the four

of those drinks for later or whatever.

261

:

Right.

262

:

But yeah.

263

:

Boys: A lot of time you always hear

about the, the broke college kid, right?

264

:

How did you get the funding to start it?

265

:

Kait: My parents were a big

support system behind that.

266

:

I did have a lot saved up prior to this.

267

:

Mm-hmm.

268

:

But my dad was definitely

a blessing in disguise.

269

:

A lot of behind-the-scenes work

with him so they kind of helped

270

:

me kind of fund this- Yeah

271

:

crazy dream that I had.

272

:

And a lot of it, just came from

building as we, like, as we grew.

273

:

So we started off with a very, I

would say, small amount of cans.

274

:

It still wasn't, like, tiny.

275

:

We s- Yeah.

276

:

Or I think we ordered maybe 2,000-

Wow … my very first order and I

277

:

just placed an order for 12,000 cans.

278

:

Geez.

279

:

So we- That's wild.

280

:

It's, it's just as we grow,

it continues to, like,

281

:

Boys: You need more and more.

282

:

Kait: Yeah, exactly, and we go through

more each time we set up, I feel like.

283

:

Like-

284

:

Boys: That's

285

:

Kait: incredible … I end up running

out of cans, and I'm like, "Oh,

286

:

goodness," like, "What am I gonna do

next week when I don't have any more?"

287

:

kind of thing.

288

:

But definitely just, like, gradually

increasing and building- Yeah … as

289

:

we, continue to expand, but…

290

:

Boys: Like, I know you do hot

coffee there- Mm … too, obviously.

291

:

Would you say the iced coffees are

probably, like, by far the number one?

292

:

Kait: 100%.

293

:

Yeah.

294

:

And a lot of things we do, we advertise,

like, our specialty can lattes and,

295

:

like, seasonal can lattes and everything.

296

:

We can actually do any iced

drink in that can which a lot

297

:

of people take advantage of.

298

:

Right.

299

:

So a lot of people do get, like,

our chai in the can or whatever.

300

:

But we do have- Options.

301

:

Yeah.

302

:

Options.

303

:

We do have regular, like, cups and

everything, so we do have some people

304

:

that get, like, 24 ounce regular c-

or, like, regular cups instead of

305

:

the can if they want a bigger drink.

306

:

Right.

307

:

But typically, the can is by far what

we go through the most of, for sure.

308

:

Makes sense.

309

:

Boys: So you make them and then can

them- Yeah … when they order them?

310

:

Kait: So it's like a regular cup.

311

:

You make it like you would,

putting it in, like, a regular

312

:

iced coffee cup kind of thing.

313

:

And then we have our canning

machine, like, on the back wall.

314

:

And once we pass…

315

:

Whoever makes the drinks, we pass it over

to the canning machine and then we, pop a

316

:

lid on it and press a button, and it seals

itself, which is really, really nice.

317

:

Boys: Oh.

318

:

Kait: Mm-hmm.

319

:

Boys: I thought you were just, like, had

them, had some prepackaged- No … like,

320

:

"Oh, hey, everybody wants an iced

latte, so we'll just pre-make so many."

321

:

You're making them.

322

:

We have

323

:

Kait: too many flavor combos to do that.

324

:

That is

325

:

Boys: crazy.

326

:

Kait: Yeah.

327

:

So we make them on site.

328

:

A lot of people got confused at

that when we first opened because

329

:

they thought they were pre-made.

330

:

Boys: Mm-hmm.

331

:

Kait: But yeah, we make

everything right in front of 'em.

332

:

Boys: Mm-hmm.

333

:

Sorry, I had to ask the question- Yeah

334

:

for the people like me who was like, "Oh."

335

:

You guys are pretty quick

in that, like, trailer too.

336

:

Kait: We've gotten- Compared to

other places … a lot faster.

337

:

I will say the first little bit we were

set up our grand opening was a bit slower

338

:

just because we had- Sure … to get some

kinks out and figure out the best method

339

:

of, like, who's taking orders, what's the

best method of, like, pulling the shots,

340

:

and making the drinks, and everything.

341

:

But now whoever's working, we

have one person on register, one

342

:

person pulling shots, and then

the other person doing drinks.

343

:

Mm.

344

:

So it's kind of like a

assembly line, I would say.

345

:

Yeah.

346

:

And then whoever makes the drinks

will pass it to that canning

347

:

machine, and then whoever's on the

register will finish it and can it.

348

:

So we've definitely, like, worked

out mainly all of those kinks.

349

:

We still have a couple kind of

slow moments if, like, we have

350

:

to refill syrups or, like, the

in-between- Mm … moments, but we've

351

:

definitely gotten quicker for sure.

352

:

Boys: Yeah.

353

:

What syrups do you use?

354

:

Kait: So we use all, like, most

of them are Holy Cacao, which is

355

:

organic and, like, all-natural.

356

:

Okay.

357

:

I think they taste a lot

better in my opinion.

358

:

Yeah.

359

:

And for me, they sit a lot better on,

like, my stomach or, like, everybody

360

:

else- Right … who drinks them.

361

:

We get a lot of compliments on, like,

the flavor and everything because they

362

:

don't taste chemically or anything.

363

:

Yeah.

364

:

They're all small batched.

365

:

Our blueberry syrup we get

from a local farm up in Maine.

366

:

Oh.

367

:

Hmm.

368

:

So we try to keep everything as, like,

natural and, like, clean as possible.

369

:

Yeah.

370

:

Boys: You don't get your

blueberries from New Jersey?

371

:

Kait: I don't.

372

:

Boys: Missing out.

373

:

Are they known for their blueberries?

374

:

Yeah.

375

:

I think now-

376

:

Kait: I didn't even know

377

:

Boys: that … if you

look at, I think that's-

378

:

Kait: I know Maine and stuff

is known for blueberries, but-

379

:

Boys: Yeah.

380

:

I thought Maine was known

for, like, maple syrup.

381

:

I thought- I thought-

… too … New Jersey was just-

382

:

Kait: New

383

:

Boys: Jersey … known for-

Yeah, middle- Being New Jersey.

384

:

I'm pretty sure, like, the middle part

of Jersey is, like, a bunch of farmland,

385

:

'cause that's where Dez is from.

386

:

Yeah.

387

:

Let's figure it out.

388

:

Like, towards PA there definitely is.

389

:

I know that.

390

:

Kait: Yeah.

391

:

Boys: We're gonna see.

392

:

Kait: Definitely.

393

:

Yeah, 'cause

394

:

Boys: I started- You said local, and

I, my brain was like, "Oh, you get it

395

:

from, like, Trask Family or Lewis Farm-

396

:

Kait: Yeah … or something

397

:

Boys: like

398

:

Kait: that."

399

:

So, yeah, most of them- I'm not

sure exactly where Holy Cacao is,

400

:

but it's a super, super good brand.

401

:

That's where we get our, like,

mocha, like, chocolate sauce

402

:

and caramel sauce- Mm-hmm

403

:

and everything too.

404

:

So.

405

:

Boys: I could definitely

tell it wasn't just, like-

406

:

Kait: Torani or- … straight, yeah.

407

:

Yeah.

408

:

And I was like, "It's not that."

409

:

I tried to avoid those just

because I don't love them.

410

:

When I went to- Right … like,

coffee shops or something, like, I

411

:

would notice the flavor difference.

412

:

Yeah.

413

:

So I wanted to also, like,

form my brand around something

414

:

that was, healthier, like- Yeah

415

:

kinda had more alternative

ingredients and stuff.

416

:

Boys: Yeah.

417

:

Talking about your brand, can you tell

me a little bit more about Grounds of

418

:

Grace, how that came, the name came?

419

:

Kait: Yeah.

420

:

So the thought behind this

is all Christian-based.

421

:

I wanted to kinda figure out

a way to, like, create a sense

422

:

of community behind the brand.

423

:

All of our cups have Bible

verses written on it.

424

:

I love, like, the words of

affirmations that I put on it as well.

425

:

Yeah.

426

:

That was kinda my main goal was,

spreading the love of Jesus behind the

427

:

brand, so it wasn't just a coffee shop.

428

:

It wasn't just a trailer that,

like, you know, popped up anywhere.

429

:

anywhere Yeah.

430

:

It's been really cool because I've had a

lot of people, come up to me, and they're

431

:

like, "I've never seen this before.

432

:

Like, what…

433

:

Where is this from?"

434

:

Like, and it starts a conversation too.

435

:

Right.

436

:

So it allows me to kind of, work, like,

plant a seed and work my way kind of into

437

:

their lives and everything, and most of

them have come back and, like, continue

438

:

to, like, message me or whatever- Ah

439

:

which is super cool.

440

:

Grounds of Grace, I wanted to

just, centered around coffee.

441

:

That's where the grounds came from.

442

:

Yeah.

443

:

But figuring out, like, kind of

that other half was definitely,

444

:

like, the iffy part, but I wanted

to do something that also flowed.

445

:

So, you know- Mm-hmm … when you

say Grounds of Grace, it's pretty,

446

:

like, cohesive and everything- Yeah

447

:

instead of, another- Yeah … kinda

word that comes about it, but.

448

:

Boys: Coffee and Toffee.

449

:

You'll, you'll appreciate this.

450

:

I thought of a great name for

a Christian coffee company.

451

:

Okay … Hebrews.

452

:

Kait: I have heard of, like- I'm

pretty sure there- … shebrews,

453

:

but I've never, like-

454

:

Boys: Yeah.

455

:

… Kait: thought- There's gotta be

456

:

Boys: somebody with a Hebrews.

457

:

There, there, there has

to be There has to be.

458

:

If someone didn't do it- I don't

know … that's a huge missed opportunity.

459

:

Yeah.

460

:

The only thing I just realized, too,

and this was not intentional when I

461

:

was making the lineup, the last…

462

:

This is the third episo- or fourth

episode b- that we're doing today,

463

:

but third in a row, that all ended

up being, like, Christian-based-

464

:

Kait: That's so

465

:

Boys: cool, though

466

:

something to build community.

467

:

Kait: Yeah.

468

:

Boys: So I was like- Hey, and you're

469

:

Kait: wearing the

perfect shirt for it, too

470

:

… Boys: I know, yeah.

471

:

And- Like, fitting the

brand and everything.

472

:

There's the first Black first

473

:

Kait: Black- I've

474

:

Boys: never heard of this

475

:

Kait: line.

476

:

That's hilarious.

477

:

Boys: What's that?

478

:

I've never heard of this.

479

:

Kait: Believe the 99?

480

:

Boys: Of what?

481

:

The s- Yeah.

482

:

It's, I mean, I know the- So I go to

The Bridge, and The Bridge- Ah, the

483

:

East Side Cafe … did this for Easter.

484

:

Got you.

485

:

Okay, okay.

486

:

Yeah.

487

:

Yes.

488

:

Yeah.

489

:

I know the story.

490

:

Kait: Yeah.

491

:

Boys: But my brain was like, "That's a,

that's a new clothing line or something."

492

:

Okay.

493

:

Kait: I actually made a shirt that had,

like, a lamb on it that says 99 on it, so-

494

:

Boys: Oh,

495

:

Kait: yeah

496

:

that was pretty cool.

497

:

You're wearing that, too.

498

:

Boys: Yeah.

499

:

All comes together.

500

:

Dang.

501

:

Kait: Yeah.

502

:

Boys: I've just been in the world

so much that any time I hear

503

:

99, I think of Jay-Z- Oh, yeah.

504

:

… and not that story.

505

:

Which, it's good that you reminded

me of that, 'cause I totally…

506

:

I would totally leave my 99 problems.

507

:

Right.

508

:

And yes, New Jersey is

known for blueberries.

509

:

Kait: Good to know.

510

:

Boys: Yeah.

511

:

Locally, they're considered

blueberry capital of the world.

512

:

No

513

:

Kait: way.

514

:

Boys: Really?

515

:

They're not, really.

516

:

Kait: Oh, okay.

517

:

Yeah.

518

:

I was like, I had no clue.

519

:

That's a new fact that I learned today.

520

:

Boys: Chris is known for this, so.

521

:

Kait: There we go.

522

:

Boys: Hold on.

523

:

People tell me I make up too much

stuff, and I'm like- Okay … "Are

524

:

you sure I'm making it up?"

525

:

You've been pretty accurate.

526

:

That's painful.

527

:

I've known him for a while.

528

:

So do you pick out the

Bible verses for the bo-

529

:

Kait: Yeah, so- You

530

:

Boys: just get somebody?

531

:

Kait: Those are…

532

:

I put some of my favorite ones on there.

533

:

So I think the one that's

on there, I can't remember.

534

:

I know I have Isaiah 41:10 on there.

535

:

Yeah … I know there's John 3:16 on one.

536

:

I have Proverbs 29:11 on another.

537

:

So each of…

538

:

The cans itself has the same

kind of design on the back.

539

:

Okay.

540

:

We're actually redoing the design

of the can, but we're keeping,

541

:

like, that part on the back.

542

:

And then each individual cup, so our

16 ounce and our 24 ounce ice cup

543

:

each have different sayings, different

Bible verses, and then each size of

544

:

our hot cups that I have also have

different sayings and Bible verses.

545

:

Mm-hmm.

546

:

Boys: So.

547

:

So you have to find a quote

from Hebrews to go in there.

548

:

Right.

549

:

Just-

550

:

Kait: Yeah … as you're listening If

you started that coffee trailer or coffee

551

:

company, you would have to do that.

552

:

Boys: I couldn't- For sure … compete

with yours, so that's fine.

553

:

I'm, I'm gonna stay out.

554

:

Kait: That's okay.

555

:

I'm sure you could.

556

:

Boys: Yeah It's just like-

We don't want to either

557

:

it's like- … people who are

like, "Oh, hey, you guys, you

558

:

should make your own whiskey."

559

:

And it's like-

560

:

Kait: No, thanks.

561

:

Boys: No.

562

:

People that do it do a good job at it.

563

:

Keep it to the pros.

564

:

Oh, yeah.

565

:

Maybe one day I'll go try some.

566

:

We…

567

:

Like, I'll do a barrel pick.

568

:

That's about it.

569

:

Next year.

570

:

Yep.

571

:

We, we talked about year five

we should do a barrel pick- Yeah

572

:

which is the best year.

573

:

That's true.

574

:

We gotta find somebody to support

it We're gonna find someone.

575

:

No problem.

576

:

I'm gonna send this to…

577

:

so your family's been a major

supporting system for you.

578

:

Kait: Yeah.

579

:

Boys: in growing your local community,

is there anybody else outside of

580

:

your family that you think has been,

like, there, you wanna shout out?

581

:

Kait: Yeah.

582

:

So there's been a lot of local

businesses that we've worked with.

583

:

We set up in front of The Range

every Friday, The Range on Oleander.

584

:

Mm-hmm.

585

:

McKenna from Salon One Suites is

actually the girl who got us out

586

:

there the very first time- Okay.

587

:

I like that … we went out there.

588

:

So she messaged me, I think the day of

our grand opening, and was like, "Hey,

589

:

not sure if you'd be interested, but,

like, would you wanna come out here?"

590

:

And that was, like, truly just, a God

moment- Mm-hmm … because w- I would have

591

:

never expected that The Range would have

turned into, like, a weekly every Friday

592

:

we're there, a couple of weekends in Sat-

or weekends in May, this month, actually.

593

:

And then ISI has been an

amazing, support system.

594

:

Angela and Ken over there, they're

the owners of ISI, of that franchise.

595

:

And we, have collabed with Empower and

Beggars, and we just set up at Trask.

596

:

So just, like, the local-

Wow … community as a whole,

597

:

like, has been amazing.

598

:

Nice.

599

:

I would have never expected to,

like, be so connected with all those,

600

:

local businesses, but it's been such

a great, like, community that has

601

:

come together just to, like, allow

us to come set up or, like, give us

602

:

support or collab or do whatever.

603

:

So- Yeah … it's been super

nice, and good to, like, have

604

:

those connections as well.

605

:

Boys: Very nice.

606

:

I always love asking people

how they build their brand and

607

:

how they build their community.

608

:

You've done a really good

job of building both.

609

:

Kait: Yeah.

610

:

Boys: How have you done that?

611

:

Because, like, every

time, even just here- Yeah

612

:

like, there's always a line.

613

:

Kait: Yeah.

614

:

Like, it's amazing.

615

:

So I think it was honestly just finding

the niche that Wilmington didn't have.

616

:

And honestly, the Christian

coffee shop aspect, there

617

:

are a couple other, trailers.

618

:

I know Restored Coffee has,

like, that Christian background.

619

:

And, like, I know a couple other

coffee shops in the area do, support

620

:

that, but honestly, it was just me

finding a cohesive, like, modern

621

:

aesthetic branding that I knew I could

grab people's attention with- Right

622

:

while also, modifying and, like,

creating that other sense of community

623

:

by adding, the Lord into it as well, so.

624

:

Boys: Yeah.

625

:

If you ever do a new tr- trailer,

can you put, like, a boulder on the

626

:

side so you can roll it a- to the

side so you can say- … we're open?

627

:

Kait: Like, do the whole three

days he rose again- Yeah, right

628

:

kinda thing when we're open?

629

:

Yeah.

630

:

Boys: And be like, "Oh, hey, we're open."

631

:

You just roll it to the

side and you roll it back.

632

:

I

633

:

Kait: think that'd be really

difficult, but- Yeah … we could try.

634

:

I might have to get you out there

to, roll it open- Yeah … every day.

635

:

You can be the one that pushes it.

636

:

Boys: For sure.

637

:

Oh, no.

638

:

Just make it out of aluminum.

639

:

Just-

640

:

Kait: Oh, yeah

641

:

… Boys: not an actual-

642

:

Kait: I'll keep that in mind when I-

643

:

… Boys: expand it.

644

:

We, we just come up with silly ideas.

645

:

Yeah.

646

:

We know y- no one's actually listening.

647

:

Kait: I love it though.

648

:

I do the same thing.

649

:

I think that also was contributing

to like, what we did, was just

650

:

throwing out random ideas and

being like, "Hey, will this work?"

651

:

Yeah.

652

:

Flavor combinations I

would've never have expected.

653

:

But like- Yeah … some of them have

worked out great, some of them have

654

:

not been as much of a hit, but just,

having the local support from the

655

:

community while also having the brand

image behind it was, the biggest thing.

656

:

And word of mouth has been our- Yeah

657

:

huge thing.

658

:

People posting, making the cans look,

I would say, aesthetic in a way.

659

:

Yeah.

660

:

Like, our background of our trailer

just our branding overall is very,

661

:

like, I would say Instagramable.

662

:

Yeah.

663

:

And especially, like, being a

college age student, like that…

664

:

I'm used to doing all that stuff

and taking pictures of everything.

665

:

Yeah.

666

:

So when I knew that people would,

see it and take pictures, and

667

:

that's like free advertisement.

668

:

Yeah.

669

:

It's just like they take pictures-

Yeah … we repost, they post and tag.

670

:

So that's helped a lot as well.

671

:

Boys: There…

672

:

Every once in a while

they'll bring another one by.

673

:

I won't name it.

674

:

Yeah.

675

:

But for multiple reasons.

676

:

But it just looks like a truck.

677

:

Kait: Yeah.

678

:

Boys: And you're like, "Are they

doing landscaping out here?"

679

:

Like, what's going on?

680

:

Kait: Yeah.

681

:

Boys: And yeah, I always think about

that all the time, and I'm like,

682

:

would it kill you to at least put a

mural or something on the back of it?

683

:

Like- It's expensive.

684

:

For…

685

:

It would be worth it.

686

:

It's

687

:

Kait: so worth it.

688

:

I know.

689

:

Like, that's my biggest thing, is if

you don't have branding and don't have

690

:

signage, you're never gonna get customers.

691

:

Boys: I didn't go to that coffee truck the

first two times it was out there 'cause

692

:

I didn't think it was a coffee truck.

693

:

Kait: Yeah.

694

:

Boys: Like, that was the issue.

695

:

Like, I, I'm not mad at them

because they like, whatever reason,

696

:

but it was just, I didn't know.

697

:

Kait: Yeah.

698

:

Boys: Maybe they just started- They didn't

… to get- They didn't … to get going.

699

:

No.

700

:

I'm trying.

701

:

He's trying to help.

702

:

You can try to help all they want, they

need something on the back of that truck.

703

:

At least, at least hand write coffee

on the back of it or something.

704

:

Put a little

705

:

Kait: handwritten sign up there.

706

:

Boys: Right.

707

:

Kait: Yeah.

708

:

' Boys: Cause they don't even have, like…

709

:

You even have a sign that sits out front,

like with all of your main stuff on

710

:

Kait: it.

711

:

Yeah.

712

:

So like- So our menu sign is out

there, so it's a lot easier to see.

713

:

Right.

714

:

They don't even have that.

715

:

Yeah.

716

:

Yeah.

717

:

Boys: Mm-hmm.

718

:

Talking about signs.

719

:

Dang it.

720

:

Thinking about Gunslinger.

721

:

Oh.

722

:

I hit that point of the

day where my food…

723

:

I'm either- … fighting to stay

awake or thinking about food or both.

724

:

Kait: There you go.

725

:

I feel like that happens

to everybody though.

726

:

Boys: Yeah.

727

:

And I don't drink coffee- Really?

728

:

… so, like, it makes it even harder.

729

:

Yeah, see, that's where you've messed up.

730

:

Kait: We'll have to get

you started on something.

731

:

Do you like s- like, chocolate or caramel?

732

:

Boys: I mean, so I will drink coffee.

733

:

Yeah.

734

:

Typically it is more of a

caramel based my coworkers- Is

735

:

Kait: it the flavor of coffee

you don't like or is it, like,

736

:

the effects of the coffee?

737

:

Boys: I just was never a coffee person.

738

:

Kait: Okay.

739

:

Boys: And everyone else is like-

How did you spend so much time in

740

:

the military and not drink coffee?

741

:

didn't, didn't smoke, didn't drink

coffee, didn't drink energy drinks.

742

:

That's crazy.

743

:

You're an anomaly, man.

744

:

Yeah.

745

:

Kait: Yeah, a lot of people come to

me and they're like, "I hate coffee."

746

:

And I'm like, "Let me change

your mind," because, the

747

:

s'mores latte we have- Mm-hmm.

748

:

Mm-hmm … I have a lot of, like,

guys specifically they'll come to

749

:

me and they're like, "Hey, I have no

clue what to get and I hate coffee."

750

:

And, like, the s'mores one

doesn't taste like coffee to me.

751

:

Boys: Mm-mm

752

:

… Kait: the creme brulee tastes like,

a straight creme brulee dessert,

753

:

so that's more caramel forward.

754

:

But there's definitely some options

if you don't like the flavor

755

:

of coffee to kind of mask that.

756

:

But-

757

:

Boys: Yeah.

758

:

My coworkers look at me like I'm crazy.

759

:

Like, "Hey, we're getting coffee.

760

:

Do you want some?"

761

:

I'm like-

762

:

Kait: Yeah.

763

:

You're like, "No, thanks."

764

:

Boys: No.

765

:

Kait: That's okay.

766

:

Boys: Will I drink it?

767

:

Yes.

768

:

Kait: Yeah.

769

:

Boys: I've tried and every, like,

from here all the way- How was

770

:

your cappuccino the other day?

771

:

In Switzerland?

772

:

Switzerland.

773

:

Mm.

774

:

That was rough.

775

:

Really?

776

:

Kait: Coffee in Europe is- It

was probably just straight…

777

:

Yeah … is scary to me.

778

:

Boys: Well, I didn't know-

I- … how to order coffee.

779

:

Kait: They don't do

iced coffee over there.

780

:

No, at all.

781

:

And I can't do hot coffee.

782

:

I am an iced coffee- Really?

783

:

Like, I'll drink hot coffee, but-

Yeah … you put iced in front

784

:

of me instead of hot, and I will

100% choose that every time.

785

:

Boys: I have to have hot coffee in the

morning and iced coffee in the afternoon.

786

:

I don't know why.

787

:

Mm.

788

:

Like, when I go and order from you- Yeah

… I get a hot coffee Yeah … to drink

789

:

with me right away, and then I get- Yeah

… another one to keep in the fridge.

790

:

That makes sense.

791

:

No.

792

:

I had a, I had a cappuccino, and I'm

like, "This just tastes like coffee."

793

:

Kait: Yeah.

794

:

Boys: but I'm like, "I need to

stay awake," 'cause I had…

795

:

We had flown in and had

landed at, like, 8:00 A.M.,

796

:

and I didn't have my first

meeting until 4:00 P.M.

797

:

Jeez.

798

:

Yeah.

799

:

I remember that.

800

:

And my hotel room wasn't ready.

801

:

Right.

802

:

So, like, I'm falling

asleep just sitting there.

803

:

Kait: Mm-hmm.

804

:

Boys: What?

805

:

Kait: Huh.

806

:

I flew to Switzerland the summer after

my senior year, and I was the same way.

807

:

Like, I don't think

I've ever been so tired.

808

:

I was falling asleep everywhere.

809

:

Like-

810

:

Boys: Yeah.

811

:

Jet

812

:

Kait: lag is real … didn't…

813

:

Yeah.

814

:

Yeah.

815

:

It was crazy, for sure.

816

:

Boys: Why'd you go?

817

:

Kait: It was a, like-

818

:

Boys: Mission trip, or just 'cause?

819

:

Kait: No.

820

:

It was a trip with my school.

821

:

So it was, I think, through EF Tours.

822

:

Mm-hmm … so, like, a group

of us from my school went.

823

:

It was like, sophomores, juniors, seniors.

824

:

You couldn't be older than, like,

a senior, so I had just graduated.

825

:

So went with a bunch of friends

and everything, and got to

826

:

go to, like, six different

countries, and that was super fun.

827

:

Boys: That's neat.

828

:

Kait: And able to travel in Europe

and just get on a bus and go

829

:

and see different places, but-

830

:

Boys: Cool.

831

:

What was the biggest difference

on the coffee world when it

832

:

comes to over the pond to here?

833

:

Kait: Believe it or not, I was not…

834

:

I used to go to coffee shops my

senior year, but I really didn't

835

:

start, like- drinking a ton of coffee

until freshman year of college.

836

:

And- Really?

837

:

So at that point, like, I think I just

wanted ice in my water over- Yeah.

838

:

in Europe.

839

:

Like I had- Yeah … I was not

focused on, like, coffee or anything.

840

:

I do remember going to a Starbucks

in, I think it was France,

841

:

and that was the first time we

had had, like, ice in a drink.

842

:

Right.

843

:

And that was, the best moment.

844

:

But- … I don't think I really got coffee

over there, just because it wasn't- Yeah

845

:

that- Cool … kind of

point in my life yet.

846

:

Boys: Interesting.

847

:

Yeah.

848

:

Their coffee is pretty…

849

:

Like, it wasn't bad

coffee, it was just like-

850

:

Kait: A lot of my friends got it, and

they said it was good, but they also

851

:

loved hot co- like, hot lattes- Mm.

852

:

Mm.

853

:

Mm … and coffee and

cappuccinos and stuff.

854

:

So I just wasn't that big

of a fan at that point.

855

:

Boys: Yeah.

856

:

That's funny.

857

:

And I don't know how to order

coffee, so they were like,

858

:

"We have coffee and alcohol."

859

:

And

860

:

Kait: that changes everywhere you go too.

861

:

Yeah.

862

:

Coffee and alcohol.

863

:

Boys: It wasn't even like…

864

:

It wasn't liquor.

865

:

They were like, "Hey, we have champagne."

866

:

Like, they had- That,

867

:

Kait: and wine and stuff … Veuve.

868

:

Yeah.

869

:

Right.

870

:

Boys: Veuve and wine and coffee,

and I'm like, "It's:

871

:

Why- … why is there a

bottle of Veuve open already?"

872

:

Kait: Serve it at every

meal over there, for sure.

873

:

Boys: Yeah.

874

:

I guess.

875

:

Alec Lensser, good for your gut.

876

:

Really?

877

:

I don't know.

878

:

Okay.

879

:

It is good for digestion.

880

:

It seemed like a Chris answer.

881

:

No, it's good for digestion.

882

:

That's f- that's real.

883

:

I don't know if it's good for your

gut, but it's good for digestion.

884

:

Oh.

885

:

There's…

886

:

I know there's two different things there.

887

:

Bubbly is, or sparkling water?

888

:

A bubbly.

889

:

Oh.

890

:

Yeah.

891

:

So there's some, there's a specific kind.

892

:

I don't know.

893

:

Right.

894

:

Mm-hmm.

895

:

I'm learning stuff today.

896

:

Kait: Yeah.

897

:

Boys: So-

898

:

I'm just here with all the randomness.

899

:

Kait: Oh, yeah.

900

:

Boys: so your new stuff's

coming out flavor-wise.

901

:

Kait: Yes.

902

:

Boys: Because this won't come out

till after your flavor drop, what

903

:

is one combo you're excited for?

904

:

Kait: we have…

905

:

Let's see.

906

:

I was just writing this down earlier.

907

:

We have a lemon kind of tart that

we're doing, which is lemon and white

908

:

chocolate with a cream cheese cold foam.

909

:

Interesting.

910

:

I didn't think I would like lemon

and coffee, but it's so subtle

911

:

that, like, it's very, like, light

and refreshing in my opinion.

912

:

Okay.

913

:

So that one's been a really good

one that I've been making a lot.

914

:

And then we have a French toast

one that we're doing, too.

915

:

Boys: Mm.

916

:

Kait: And we- That sounds

good … just experimented with that.

917

:

Actually, when we were at Biggers

a couple weeks ago, we just started

918

:

putting random things together.

919

:

One of my girls was like,

"Hmm, this sounds good."

920

:

So she would like- … put different

combos together, and she asked me what

921

:

it was missing and we figured it out.

922

:

And, I was like, "Let's add

it to the menu" kind of thing

923

:

because I haven't really seen

a French toast one many places.

924

:

Mm-hmm.

925

:

Boys: Mm-hmm.

926

:

Kait: So having like- That's

good … it tasted exactly like

927

:

French toast, which was really crazy

to me, but I'm excited- That's good

928

:

about that one, too.

929

:

But-

930

:

Boys: So I, I would try that one.

931

:

Kait: Mm-hmm.

932

:

Boys: So if they're

here, you can buy me one.

933

:

Kait: Yeah.

934

:

Boys: All right.

935

:

Just- I'll, I'll run

across the street to you.

936

:

Right.

937

:

Kait: We'll be here two

Thursdays in May, I think.

938

:

It's like every other.

939

:

Okay.

940

:

Boys: Something like that.

941

:

I don't know.

942

:

I'm not here this Thursday.

943

:

I will be next Thursday.

944

:

I won't be here this Thursday either.

945

:

Yeah.

946

:

You're not gonna be here

this Thursday, are you?

947

:

Kait: Let me check my calendar.

948

:

I don't…

949

:

Boys: For those who are

wondering- Can't miss you.

950

:

Want to be here … we record early

and then, like, drop episodes later.

951

:

We'll be

952

:

Kait: here next Thursday.

953

:

Boys: Okay.

954

:

Kait: And then the 28th, and then

we'll be at Hudson Renaissance,

955

:

so right around- Oh, okay.

956

:

Yeah … the corner the 19th.

957

:

So-

958

:

Boys: Hudson

959

:

… Kait: not next Tuesday, the Tuesday after.

960

:

Boys: So you know if you leave

out here, there's a road that

961

:

goes left by towards, like, Perla.

962

:

Yeah.

963

:

Kait: It's, like, right by that- It's

right next to Perla … is it Tru

964

:

Hotel- Oh, that- … or something?

965

:

Boys: Oh,

966

:

Kait: yeah … that hotel

that's right over there.

967

:

That Tru Hotel.

968

:

Yeah.

969

:

Boys: Yeah.

970

:

Right across the street from that.

971

:

Yeah, don't worry.

972

:

When you said- … we post

up at The Range, I'm like-

973

:

Kait: Yeah, The Range on Oleander.

974

:

Boys: Yeah.

975

:

But that's what really threw me off, is

'cause you said The Range at Oleander.

976

:

I'm like-

977

:

Kait: It used to be- Where is

there a- … a golf course.

978

:

I learned that a couple weeks ago.

979

:

Oh.

980

:

And I'm like, "That's funny."

981

:

Yeah.

982

:

I, like, knew it was named

The Range, but I had no clue.

983

:

That's

984

:

Boys: why.

985

:

Kait: Yeah.

986

:

Boys: I thought it was a gun range.

987

:

And I was like, "There's not

a gun range on Oleander."

988

:

It used to be, like, a

989

:

Kait: golf

990

:

Boys: thing, I think.

991

:

It was.

992

:

It was the driving range.

993

:

It was a

994

:

Kait: driving

995

:

Boys: range.

996

:

Yeah.

997

:

Because the, like, one of the

Munies is right behind it.

998

:

Mm-hmm.

999

:

Kait: Yeah.

:

00:30:52,333 --> 00:30:56,933

Boys: So it s- it worked out, but

no one really went there for years.

:

00:30:56,993 --> 00:30:57,134

Kait: Yeah.

:

00:30:57,614 --> 00:31:00,154

That's probably why they turned

it into an apartment complex.

:

00:31:00,944 --> 00:31:02,103

Boys: Yes, or they got

offered a lot of money.

:

00:31:02,634 --> 00:31:03,373

Yeah.

:

00:31:03,433 --> 00:31:03,893

Kait: That one, too.

:

00:31:03,953 --> 00:31:04,223

Both.

:

00:31:04,893 --> 00:31:05,433

Yeah.

:

00:31:05,493 --> 00:31:06,034

Could be both.

:

00:31:06,473 --> 00:31:07,014

Boys: All of the above.

:

00:31:07,293 --> 00:31:07,514

True.

:

00:31:07,774 --> 00:31:07,873

Kait: Yeah.

:

00:31:07,993 --> 00:31:09,764

Boys: So one of my last questions

:

00:31:10,074 --> 00:31:10,104

Kait: for you.

:

00:31:10,154 --> 00:31:11,333

Boys: Yeah.

:

00:31:11,514 --> 00:31:14,793

What does success look like for you?

:

00:31:14,973 --> 00:31:19,214

Kait: I honestly think achieving the

things that I never thought I could.

:

00:31:19,293 --> 00:31:22,074

So when I push myself to do these

things, like I said, I never

:

00:31:22,094 --> 00:31:23,194

thought we'd grow this fast.

:

00:31:23,243 --> 00:31:23,254

Mm.

:

00:31:23,274 --> 00:31:27,543

Like, I think we had 1,000 followers

less than three weeks after we opened,

:

00:31:27,634 --> 00:31:29,473

and that was- Wow … insane for me.

:

00:31:29,674 --> 00:31:33,234

And we are almost at 6,000 now,

so we hit 5,000 followers on

:

00:31:33,294 --> 00:31:35,593

Instagram the beginning of April.

:

00:31:35,694 --> 00:31:39,254

Never thought that day would come,

I kinda started this as, like, a

:

00:31:39,314 --> 00:31:44,994

fun little side gig that I could do,

part-time every, like, so often, and

:

00:31:45,034 --> 00:31:48,574

now we're setting up so consistently

and I have girls that work for me.

:

00:31:48,934 --> 00:31:53,284

It's honestly just, being able to, like,

look back and see the things that I, like,

:

00:31:53,344 --> 00:31:55,304

had always dreamed about, coming to life.

:

00:31:55,924 --> 00:31:55,934

Mm.

:

00:31:55,944 --> 00:32:00,114

And honestly, just, in the future

expansion plans and everything, we've

:

00:32:00,154 --> 00:32:02,134

already started talking about that, so-

:

00:32:02,294 --> 00:32:02,674

Boys: Wow

:

00:32:02,794 --> 00:32:05,794

… Kait: seeing that, like, and knowing

that that could potentially be what

:

00:32:05,914 --> 00:32:09,534

I do post-grad is super cool from,

like, something that started so

:

00:32:09,594 --> 00:32:12,034

small as a thought in my anatomy lab.

:

00:32:12,154 --> 00:32:15,224

Just seeing it all come to life

has been really fun and really,

:

00:32:15,254 --> 00:32:16,654

really crazy to think about.

:

00:32:18,253 --> 00:32:20,674

Boys: And did I read that you … What

were you going to school for?

:

00:32:21,213 --> 00:32:22,053

Kait: Exercise science.

:

00:32:22,133 --> 00:32:22,674

Boys: That's what I thought.

:

00:32:23,174 --> 00:32:23,413

Kait: Yep.

:

00:32:24,213 --> 00:32:24,273

So

:

00:32:24,333 --> 00:32:25,553

Boys: tell me where that falls into play.

:

00:32:26,294 --> 00:32:30,113

Kait: I have done athletic training, like

sports medicine stuff at my high school

:

00:32:30,213 --> 00:32:32,393

for the last, gosh, eight years now.

:

00:32:32,973 --> 00:32:35,054

So this past season I still

went back and helped with the

:

00:32:35,093 --> 00:32:36,333

football team and everything.

:

00:32:36,374 --> 00:32:36,553

Yeah.

:

00:32:36,653 --> 00:32:38,594

It started as like a crazy passion.

:

00:32:38,633 --> 00:32:40,173

Like, I love being around sports.

:

00:32:40,213 --> 00:32:42,053

I played softball, in high school.

:

00:32:42,113 --> 00:32:42,674

Yeah.

:

00:32:42,774 --> 00:32:46,674

And just being like around that high

energy football team was just super fun.

:

00:32:47,274 --> 00:32:51,174

So, I thought that'd be something I

wanted to do post-grad, but I have

:

00:32:51,213 --> 00:32:52,854

to go to grad school and like I

:

00:32:52,893 --> 00:32:56,533

There's so many routes you could

do, the PA route, the PT- Right.

:

00:32:56,574 --> 00:32:57,593

Mm-hmm … athletic training.

:

00:32:58,213 --> 00:33:01,673

And so that's what I was going for, and

the plan's to either go to PA school or

:

00:33:01,793 --> 00:33:03,633

like athletic training school originally.

:

00:33:04,414 --> 00:33:07,783

But I'm, doing that and business

at this point just to kinda-

:

00:33:07,923 --> 00:33:10,024

Right … have a different kinda

background to fall back on.

:

00:33:10,083 --> 00:33:13,863

So it's kinda just there

if I need it at this point.

:

00:33:14,383 --> 00:33:19,523

May end up doing it in the future, kinda

not sure at this point, but that's-

:

00:33:19,523 --> 00:33:21,343

Yeah … where that falls into everything.

:

00:33:21,743 --> 00:33:22,044

Boys: Okay.

:

00:33:22,123 --> 00:33:24,483

So the coffee route is plan A right now?

:

00:33:24,824 --> 00:33:25,784

Kait: Yeah, for sure.

:

00:33:25,823 --> 00:33:25,903

Or D plan.

:

00:33:25,943 --> 00:33:26,023

Yeah.

:

00:33:26,063 --> 00:33:29,893

And … Yeah, and I never would've

thought that two years ago, right.

:

00:33:30,013 --> 00:33:33,133

At that point I had full intentions of

going to grad school or like pursuing

:

00:33:33,233 --> 00:33:36,333

something in like the sports medicine

world, but- Mm-hmm … seeing this

:

00:33:36,393 --> 00:33:41,333

business come to life and like seeing

what could possibly happen based off

:

00:33:41,373 --> 00:33:44,833

of what we've started is definitely

like kind of the route that I see-

:

00:33:44,913 --> 00:33:45,053

Boys: Yeah

:

00:33:45,273 --> 00:33:48,543

Kait: see it continuing in, which

is really fun to, look towards

:

00:33:48,583 --> 00:33:52,163

the future and kinda see what

I've built come to life, so.

:

00:33:52,203 --> 00:33:52,444

Boys: Nice.

:

00:33:52,484 --> 00:33:53,723

What are some of the next plans you have?

:

00:33:55,460 --> 00:33:56,280

That you're willing to share on

:

00:33:56,620 --> 00:33:57,000

Kait: Yeah.

:

00:33:57,090 --> 00:34:01,310

So, the eventual goal is to have, like,

a storefront location- Sure … and

:

00:34:01,340 --> 00:34:04,740

Wilmington is extremely difficult to

find that right now with all of the- Yeah

:

00:34:04,740 --> 00:34:05,720

different spaces.

:

00:34:05,980 --> 00:34:08,820

There's hardly any spaces

actually, like commercial-wise.

:

00:34:09,480 --> 00:34:12,110

So either that or expanding

into a different, larger

:

00:34:12,210 --> 00:34:13,690

trailer and having multiple.

:

00:34:13,760 --> 00:34:16,860

Not quite sure the exact route, but

definitely- Yeah … something along

:

00:34:16,900 --> 00:34:20,920

those lines where we can expand and

kind of push on the trailer kind

:

00:34:20,960 --> 00:34:24,400

of just doing private events or,

weddings and stuff like that, so.

:

00:34:25,389 --> 00:34:25,400

Boys: Right.

:

00:34:25,440 --> 00:34:27,860

You should have the salon that's

underneath there get kicked

:

00:34:27,960 --> 00:34:28,880

out and take over that spot.

:

00:34:28,960 --> 00:34:29,960

Kait: I love that salon.

:

00:34:30,340 --> 00:34:30,500

They…

:

00:34:30,960 --> 00:34:33,880

One of my friends works there, so

she always comes out there when

:

00:34:33,920 --> 00:34:36,810

we're set up there, but- That's

awesome … yeah, definitely finding

:

00:34:37,070 --> 00:34:39,989

a storefront location in a, prime-

:

00:34:40,370 --> 00:34:40,500

Boys: Yeah

:

00:34:40,710 --> 00:34:41,909

… Kait: spot is- In a formidable spot.

:

00:34:42,090 --> 00:34:42,270

Yeah.

:

00:34:43,070 --> 00:34:44,610

Boys: It looks like that

salon does really well there.

:

00:34:44,790 --> 00:34:45,030

Kait: They do.

:

00:34:45,070 --> 00:34:45,389

But which is crazy.

:

00:34:45,389 --> 00:34:45,400

Yeah.

:

00:34:45,420 --> 00:34:46,380

They're always busy.

:

00:34:46,480 --> 00:34:47,080

Yeah.

:

00:34:47,159 --> 00:34:47,409

Boys: And

:

00:34:47,699 --> 00:34:49,610

Kait: selfishly- I didn't even

know it was there until, like, the

:

00:34:49,610 --> 00:34:52,100

first, like, I think it was the

fourth time I went, and I was like,

:

00:34:52,170 --> 00:34:53,860

"Wait, I had no clue this was here."

:

00:34:54,040 --> 00:34:54,719

Boys: Yeah.

:

00:34:54,820 --> 00:34:57,560

Selfishly, I want it somewhere

I can eat or drink, but- Yeah

:

00:34:57,580 --> 00:34:59,400

so I don't have to walk somewhere.

:

00:34:59,440 --> 00:34:59,919

Kait: Yeah, exactly.

:

00:34:59,940 --> 00:35:02,260

Boys: But, Yeah … I'm like, if

the salon's doing well there, I'm

:

00:35:02,300 --> 00:35:04,570

sure if you had some type of food

or drinks or something- Yeah, for

:

00:35:04,700 --> 00:35:05,440

sure … it'd do really well there, too.

:

00:35:06,120 --> 00:35:10,230

Kait: And a lot of apartment complexes

do have, like, those retail spaces- Right

:

00:35:10,230 --> 00:35:13,580

… but they're very few and far between,

and it's hard- I imagine that, yes

:

00:35:13,680 --> 00:35:17,220

Once they're full, they, are

locked in for multiple years.

:

00:35:17,250 --> 00:35:17,270

At least.

:

00:35:17,300 --> 00:35:17,800

So yeah.

:

00:35:18,410 --> 00:35:18,420

Right.

:

00:35:18,460 --> 00:35:21,090

So it's kind of hard unless they,

like, don't renew, or if it's,

:

00:35:21,120 --> 00:35:22,250

like, a new apartment complex.

:

00:35:22,320 --> 00:35:23,840

Like, once they're locked in, like-

:

00:35:23,900 --> 00:35:24,030

Boys: Right

:

00:35:24,120 --> 00:35:26,550

… Kait: that's like five or seven years,

like, from now- Exactly … where

:

00:35:26,600 --> 00:35:27,880

that would, come up again, so.

:

00:35:28,280 --> 00:35:29,220

Boys: What about the range?

:

00:35:30,780 --> 00:35:31,260

I'm just kidding.

:

00:35:31,320 --> 00:35:32,600

You don't have to give those details.

:

00:35:33,780 --> 00:35:35,120

I'm just here to cause mayhem

:

00:35:35,180 --> 00:35:35,320

Kait: sometimes.

:

00:35:35,340 --> 00:35:36,540

No, you're good.

:

00:35:36,620 --> 00:35:40,940

There is definitely opportunities

there to potentially expand.

:

00:35:41,040 --> 00:35:43,470

It's definitely still in the works,

so we'll see what happens, but-

:

00:35:43,560 --> 00:35:44,170

Boys: In the future

:

00:35:47,907 --> 00:35:48,987

I do have a last question for you too.

:

00:35:49,048 --> 00:35:49,168

Kait: Yeah.

:

00:35:50,308 --> 00:35:53,248

Boys: Since he was talking about looking

forward, to look back a little bit-

:

00:35:53,308 --> 00:35:55,267

Yeah … if you could tell your younger

self one thing, what would it be?

:

00:35:56,996 --> 00:35:58,356

Kait: Never stop dreaming.

:

00:35:58,416 --> 00:35:58,706

Like-

:

00:35:59,196 --> 00:35:59,276

Boys: Love

:

00:35:59,285 --> 00:36:02,825

Kait: it … if you would have told me

in high school that I would have come

:

00:36:02,865 --> 00:36:08,875

to UNCW and, like, started two different

companies and, running it while being a

:

00:36:08,935 --> 00:36:12,045

student and doing all this other stuff

and just, like, having that balancing

:

00:36:12,155 --> 00:36:14,475

aspect, I would have never believed you.

:

00:36:14,495 --> 00:36:14,615

Yeah.

:

00:36:14,625 --> 00:36:14,955

But like…

:

00:36:16,175 --> 00:36:19,205

And I tell people this all the time when

they ask me to, because a lot of people

:

00:36:19,255 --> 00:36:21,255

have asked me, like, "How do you do it?"

:

00:36:21,295 --> 00:36:24,835

Or like, "What can I do to kind of- Mm-hmm

… pursue the things like you have done?"

:

00:36:24,965 --> 00:36:28,825

And honestly, it's, I don't,

run a business scared.

:

00:36:29,245 --> 00:36:32,525

I got that from my dad, and

I really appreciate that.

:

00:36:32,685 --> 00:36:36,205

So honestly, just, reaching for

the stars and never looking back.

:

00:36:36,445 --> 00:36:36,725

And-

:

00:36:36,765 --> 00:36:37,425

Boys: That's

:

00:36:37,465 --> 00:36:39,425

Kait: awesome … not

being scared of failing.

:

00:36:39,525 --> 00:36:43,305

I learn more from doing things

wrong than I do, from doing

:

00:36:43,335 --> 00:36:44,635

them right, if that makes sense.

:

00:36:44,665 --> 00:36:44,675

Yeah.

:

00:36:44,695 --> 00:36:49,235

So- Yeah … but yeah, definitely

if you have those dreams, reach for

:

00:36:49,275 --> 00:36:51,435

them and don't let anybody stop you.

:

00:36:51,515 --> 00:36:52,375

So.

:

00:36:52,435 --> 00:36:52,535

Boys: Yeah.

:

00:36:52,675 --> 00:36:53,105

Nice.

:

00:36:53,555 --> 00:36:55,775

You're extremely confident

and, like, well-spoken.

:

00:36:55,915 --> 00:36:57,755

Especially for being, like,

still in college- Thank

:

00:36:57,755 --> 00:36:58,825

you … coming out and having two.

:

00:36:58,975 --> 00:36:59,045

Yeah.

:

00:36:59,045 --> 00:37:00,615

Like, whatever you do, you're

gonna be successful at it.

:

00:37:01,075 --> 00:37:01,935

Kait: I appreciate that.

:

00:37:02,235 --> 00:37:02,375

Yeah.

:

00:37:03,265 --> 00:37:03,275

Boys: Yeah.

:

00:37:03,315 --> 00:37:08,815

So for those like me who aren't following

you yet- … where, where can they

:

00:37:08,855 --> 00:37:10,115

figure out where you're gonna be next?

:

00:37:10,295 --> 00:37:14,915

Kait: Yeah, so we post our schedule

each week on, let's see, Instagram.

:

00:37:15,615 --> 00:37:18,945

I try to post like a weekly schedule-

Mm-hmm … typically on Sundays,

:

00:37:18,975 --> 00:37:20,575

just for like the upcoming week.

:

00:37:21,135 --> 00:37:24,775

I also try to keep a month

full calendar on our website.

:

00:37:24,915 --> 00:37:27,525

So, our Instagram is groundsofgracenc.

:

00:37:28,035 --> 00:37:30,435

Our website is groundsofgracenc.com.

:

00:37:30,575 --> 00:37:33,855

So I try to keep it all pretty

cohesive, that way it's easy to find.

:

00:37:33,965 --> 00:37:33,975

Yeah.

:

00:37:33,995 --> 00:37:37,305

But we have a little highlight on

our Instagram that says, "Find us,"

:

00:37:37,555 --> 00:37:40,555

so- Mm-hmm … we try to post each

day before where we're gonna be, put

:

00:37:40,595 --> 00:37:45,215

it on our bio and just have people,

repost it where we're setting up, so.

:

00:37:45,475 --> 00:37:46,015

Boys: I like it.

:

00:37:46,095 --> 00:37:47,035

Yeah.

:

00:37:47,095 --> 00:37:49,935

Every Monday morning- … where's

Grounds of Grace gonna be

:

00:37:49,995 --> 00:37:50,015

Kait: this week?

:

00:37:50,015 --> 00:37:51,595

There you go.

:

00:37:51,655 --> 00:37:54,635

We have a lot of people that do

that, and then they message us when

:

00:37:54,675 --> 00:37:57,115

we're, we don't have a date on the

calendar and they're like- Yeah.

:

00:37:57,145 --> 00:37:57,825

… "Where are you at today?"

:

00:37:57,874 --> 00:37:59,835

And I'm like, "We're not set up.

:

00:37:59,975 --> 00:38:00,775

So sorry."

:

00:38:00,884 --> 00:38:00,895

Yeah.

:

00:38:00,935 --> 00:38:01,785

Like, but yeah.

:

00:38:01,795 --> 00:38:01,835

We

:

00:38:01,875 --> 00:38:02,875

Boys: are still people.

:

00:38:03,095 --> 00:38:03,305

Right.

:

00:38:03,735 --> 00:38:05,275

And some of us- We have

lives … are still in school.

:

00:38:05,455 --> 00:38:06,295

Kait: Yeah, exactly.

:

00:38:06,395 --> 00:38:10,295

I'm like, "I'm trying my best," but I

have classes Monday, Wednesday, Friday.

:

00:38:10,415 --> 00:38:11,795

Thankfully, those are almost up.

:

00:38:11,835 --> 00:38:15,335

But all of my girls that work for me have

classes too, 'cause they're students, so.

:

00:38:15,355 --> 00:38:15,735

Boys: Right.

:

00:38:15,865 --> 00:38:17,495

Kait: gotta work around,

everybody's schedule.

:

00:38:18,375 --> 00:38:18,495

Boys: Yeah.

:

00:38:18,935 --> 00:38:19,595

When do you graduate?

:

00:38:20,295 --> 00:38:20,865

Kait: This December.

:

00:38:21,255 --> 00:38:21,595

Boys: Oh, nice.

:

00:38:22,015 --> 00:38:22,085

Kait: Yep.

:

00:38:22,115 --> 00:38:22,375

Boys: Congrats.

:

00:38:22,815 --> 00:38:23,815

Kait: Thank you.

:

00:38:23,855 --> 00:38:27,295

Yeah, we're working on my thesis

project right now, so as soon as that

:

00:38:27,315 --> 00:38:31,695

wraps up, I'll be able to present

that and graduate in December.

:

00:38:32,195 --> 00:38:32,655

Boys: Nice.

:

00:38:32,695 --> 00:38:33,315

Very good.

:

00:38:33,375 --> 00:38:33,455

Kait: Yeah.

:

00:38:33,515 --> 00:38:35,395

Boys: So was that early

for you, or is that late?

:

00:38:35,595 --> 00:38:39,215

Kait: Yeah, I could have graduated this

spring but with my thesis project, it

:

00:38:39,255 --> 00:38:43,587

kind of pushed back a little bit, so that

was pushed back to this fall, but- I was

:

00:38:43,627 --> 00:38:47,727

supposed to graduate in spring of '27,

so it'll be at least a semester early.

:

00:38:49,417 --> 00:38:49,427

Boys: Right.

:

00:38:49,427 --> 00:38:51,577

You're like, "Well, if I

hadn't started two businesses,

:

00:38:51,647 --> 00:38:52,327

I might have been able to."

:

00:38:52,667 --> 00:38:52,786

Right.

:

00:38:53,047 --> 00:38:53,987

Kait: Yeah, maybe so.

:

00:38:54,267 --> 00:38:54,617

Boys: Don't worry.

:

00:38:56,447 --> 00:38:56,967

Trade-offs.

:

00:38:57,047 --> 00:38:57,167

Yeah.

:

00:38:57,487 --> 00:38:58,507

Kait: Yeah, for sure.

:

00:38:59,027 --> 00:39:00,867

Boys: Thank you for

bringing him some coffee.

:

00:39:00,987 --> 00:39:01,707

Kait: Absolutely.

:

00:39:01,747 --> 00:39:01,937

Boys: Yeah, for

:

00:39:01,937 --> 00:39:01,947

Kait: sure.

:

00:39:01,947 --> 00:39:02,647

Anytime.

:

00:39:03,087 --> 00:39:05,167

Boys: I will definitely- I'm gonna

have to try some of your flavors.

:

00:39:05,267 --> 00:39:05,427

Kait: Yeah.

:

00:39:06,047 --> 00:39:07,007

So many to choose from.

:

00:39:07,507 --> 00:39:07,667

Boys: That's the-

:

00:39:07,707 --> 00:39:08,927

Kait: Eeny, meeny, miny, moe it.

:

00:39:09,897 --> 00:39:09,907

Boys: Yep.

:

00:39:09,907 --> 00:39:14,157

And I, I'm a, a, a

proponent for local stuff.

:

00:39:14,247 --> 00:39:14,257

Yeah.

:

00:39:14,267 --> 00:39:16,127

So all my coworkers are like,

"Oh, we're going to Starbucks."

:

00:39:16,147 --> 00:39:17,507

And I'm like Mm-hmm.

:

00:39:17,627 --> 00:39:17,787

Kait: Yeah.

:

00:39:18,337 --> 00:39:19,507

" Boys: Drift is right up the street.

:

00:39:19,627 --> 00:39:19,937

Just walk."

:

00:39:20,707 --> 00:39:20,887

Kait: Drift

:

00:39:20,947 --> 00:39:21,047

Boys: has

:

00:39:21,087 --> 00:39:22,307

Kait: gotten huge too.

:

00:39:22,387 --> 00:39:22,457

Boys: Yeah.

:

00:39:22,507 --> 00:39:22,687

Yeah.

:

00:39:22,747 --> 00:39:24,927

Kait: I feel like they're

popping up everywhere I look now.

:

00:39:25,147 --> 00:39:25,647

Boys: Mm-hmm.

:

00:39:25,987 --> 00:39:26,867

Yeah, I didn't…

:

00:39:26,927 --> 00:39:28,487

I was talking to somebody, and

they were like, "Yeah, Drift

:

00:39:28,507 --> 00:39:29,547

has a really good burger."

:

00:39:30,107 --> 00:39:30,527

And I'm like- Burger?

:

00:39:30,967 --> 00:39:31,127

What?

:

00:39:31,327 --> 00:39:32,117

"Drift has a burger?"

:

00:39:32,167 --> 00:39:32,407

And they're like, "Yeah."

:

00:39:32,427 --> 00:39:32,687

Is that

:

00:39:32,707 --> 00:39:34,727

Kait: the one on Wrightsville

Beach that has food?

:

00:39:34,747 --> 00:39:34,757

Wright's.

:

00:39:34,757 --> 00:39:34,767

Ah.

:

00:39:34,807 --> 00:39:35,087

Okay.

:

00:39:35,307 --> 00:39:37,667

I didn't even realize that

they had burgers or anything.

:

00:39:37,687 --> 00:39:37,697

Boys: Yeah.

:

00:39:37,707 --> 00:39:39,447

Well, the one in Mayfair has food too.

:

00:39:39,467 --> 00:39:39,717

Well, like- I knew

:

00:39:39,787 --> 00:39:40,407

Kait: they had, like-

:

00:39:40,467 --> 00:39:41,017

Boys: Not, not a lot … three.

:

00:39:41,067 --> 00:39:41,217

Yeah.

:

00:39:41,217 --> 00:39:41,477

I think the

:

00:39:41,507 --> 00:39:44,607

Kait: one on- It's, like, what,

off-site or something, like salads

:

00:39:44,667 --> 00:39:46,947

and, you know- Yeah, a small

wrap … a wrap or two, but yeah.

:

00:39:46,987 --> 00:39:47,417

Boys: Yeah.

:

00:39:47,807 --> 00:39:47,817

I…

:

00:39:47,867 --> 00:39:50,147

That's why I was really

dumbfounded when you said they

:

00:39:50,227 --> 00:39:52,667

had a good burger because- Yeah

:

00:39:52,667 --> 00:39:53,987

if I had the mental, I would…

:

00:39:54,327 --> 00:39:57,997

That would be, like, my side project from

this podcast- … is just trying burgers.

:

00:39:58,207 --> 00:39:58,337

Kait: Yeah.

:

00:39:58,862 --> 00:40:00,022

Each place you go.

:

00:40:00,082 --> 00:40:01,402

Boys: Yes.

:

00:40:01,522 --> 00:40:02,681

Burgers and old fashioneds.

:

00:40:04,442 --> 00:40:04,922

I like it.

:

00:40:05,532 --> 00:40:06,522

And you can do the coffee.

:

00:40:06,582 --> 00:40:06,602

Let's go.

:

00:40:06,602 --> 00:40:07,382

We just have a whole-

:

00:40:07,542 --> 00:40:07,882

Kait: There you go.

:

00:40:07,982 --> 00:40:08,562

Boys: Yeah, we're good to go.

:

00:40:08,642 --> 00:40:09,302

Yeah.

:

00:40:09,362 --> 00:40:10,702

Somebody will support us one day.

:

00:40:10,782 --> 00:40:11,242

Kait: Oh, yeah.

:

00:40:12,612 --> 00:40:12,622

Boys: Yeah.

:

00:40:12,622 --> 00:40:14,882

But yeah, thank you for,

for coming and hanging out.

:

00:40:14,942 --> 00:40:15,482

Kait: Yeah, absolutely.

:

00:40:15,542 --> 00:40:16,382

Thank you for having me.

:

00:40:16,482 --> 00:40:16,622

Boys: Yeah.

:

00:40:16,882 --> 00:40:17,342

We'll get to…

:

00:40:17,462 --> 00:40:20,442

We'll have to get you to try a

coffee liqueur at some point.

:

00:40:20,562 --> 00:40:21,082

Kait: Eventually.

:

00:40:21,922 --> 00:40:22,682

Boys: After tomorrow, right?

:

00:40:22,902 --> 00:40:23,802

Kait: Yeah, after tomorrow.

:

00:40:24,002 --> 00:40:24,952

Happy early, happy early

birthday, by the way.

:

00:40:24,982 --> 00:40:25,602

Thank you.

:

00:40:26,582 --> 00:40:27,832

Boys: Happy birthday, and we'll- Yeah

:

00:40:27,832 --> 00:40:28,492

catch you next time.

:

00:40:28,802 --> 00:40:29,742

Kait: Absolutely.

:

00:40:29,862 --> 00:40:30,442

Sounds good.

:

00:40:30,842 --> 00:40:31,202

Boys: Cheers.

:

00:40:31,282 --> 00:40:31,862

Cheers.
